Schedule motion detection on Outdoor Cameras

This request covers the ability to schedule Motion Detection on the Outdoor Camera, so that it is active only at certain times of the day.

There is a separate request to tie the Outdoor Camera's motion detection to the armed state - so that you can customize whether motion detection is on for Home/Away/Off modes. You can find that request here.

I'd like to request a new feature that allows users to toggle a camera's "Motion detection" functionality on/off on a schedule. I've found that my outdoor wireless cameras run out of battery more often than necessary because there's no way to automatically toggle off motion detection during days/times when we know we'll be home and going in/out of the monitored entrances throughout the day.

Currently the only way to control this is manually--by opening the app every morning to toggle motion detection off, then doing the same to toggle motion detection back on in the evening.

This new feature could save users a lot of battery charge and maintenance and cut down on unnecessary notifications. I suspect it could also be a boon for Simplisafe, as it means potentially reducing the amount of data storage required for account users who opt into auto-scheduling.

Agree this would be a GREAT option!!!!!

Yes, please! We have used two other cheaper camera systems, and both had this capability.

Recently scheduled arming was rolled out. This is an important new feature. To complement this new feature, scheduled activity monitoring. Scheduled activity monitoring is even more important for me. We have kids and live in a neighborhood where kids are always out playing when the weather is nice. If I forget to lower the sensitivity or turn off the activity monitoring, the outdoor camera batteries will be consumed in 10 - 14 days. This is a real drag but could be compensated for by having scheduled periods with lowered sensitivity or where the activity monitoring is off.

@natedilworth thanks for the suggestion! That feature request is currently SUBMITTED, but not yet implemented. We'll keep you updated in this thread if we have news.

In the meantime, you do already have the ability to Snooze Notifications temporarily. You can learn more about the feature here.

Priority should be given to this request, it's a major gap in the functionality of the SF system. Having to turn detection and notifications on every time I arm the system and off again when disarming for all of my cameras in order to avoid constantly changing batteries is ridiculous. I really like this system but this is a deal breaker for me. Can you provide any estimate on when this will be implemented?

Yes please! This is a major gap for my family! SS is the #1 source of notifications on our phones and tablets. 95% of them are not useful because of this

Would love to see this feature!

Allow motion detection profiles for those times when users are in/out all day long and constantly triggering the motion sensor and sending notifications. This could be a similar implementation to the alarm schedule feature. As a work-from-home employee I'm in and out of my house all day long and I'm constantly triggering the motion sensors. Perhaps the profile could be tied to notifications being on or off based off of a schedule (i.e., off from 0600-2100 unless alarm is set if I leave the house during the "notification off" schedule). Then, turn "notification off" when the alarm is disabled. This would also be tired to the alarm schedule feature so motion  notifications are enabled when the alarm schedule triggers the system.

Hi @Skylinepc,

Thank you for your suggestion, I have submitted it to our dev team. In the meantime, I would recommend enabling Snooze Notifications for when you know that you will be going in and out of your house.

Camera alert control is a BADLY needed feature!  The ability to set each camera independently so that it gives alerts always versus only when alarm is set versus scheduled.  Some cameras I only want alerts when alarm is set (eg pool), other ones I want all the time (eg front door.)  I don't personally care about scheduled times but I can see how some people would.  Right now there are SO many notifications from the pool area that it's annoying; but turning that camera on/off is several steps into the app, not quick to get to, and then you have to remember to turn it back on.  To me this is the by far the biggest negative to our SimpliSafe system.

I love the new alarm scheduling feature.
Now, what about camera scheduling? It would be nice to schedule the rear outside camera between 10 pm and 6am for example. That way it wouldn’t be recording family movement all day.

Hi @marjay1962,

Thank you for this suggestion! A similar request has been submitted to our dev team. When we hear from them, an update will be provided in this thread.

In the meantime, I would recommend enabling Snooze Notifications when you know that you and your family will be outside. It won't prevent the Outdoor Camera from recording, but it will pause motion notifications. You can learn more about the feature in this Help Center article.

Totally agree - should have been considered an 'essential feature' at the outset.

I sometimes get in excess of 50 (yes fifty!) notifications on outdoor camera motion detection per daytime - when our home alarm system is off.

What bugs me is that during this time, the camera must wastefully  consume power and record footage etc.

On the very rare occaisions when I have my phone screen active, there's a notification PLUS an option to sleep for 30mins.

Wht can't *this* be activated within the app? (with additional per-device scheduling?)

I know for a fact that the outdoor camera scheduling 'omission' has made friends of mine buy a system (that 'does') elsewhere ;-( come on Simplisafe, this has been an urgent to-do since the outdoor cameras came out!

Yes!!! We were just hoping for this too.

So, I see having a schedule for the cameras is STILL not an option. This is making me contemplate switching to another security system. I have a home practice where I see patients. And, I do not want the cameras recording at those times. So, I am manually setting the cameras after my patients, which is different each day.

@PC30 Yes, currently there is no way to set a schedule for when you want the Outdoor Camera to be active or not. This feature has been Submitted to our devs, but it is not in development. If anything changes, we'll let everyone in this thread know.

This is my third request over the past 2 years for adding scheduled motion detection on the outdoor cameras.  This is a must have functionality.   Please provide better updates other than this has been passed on to development.  Is this seriously being considered or being worked on?  Similar to the recent addition of schedule arm/disarm in the main system, this will be a well received option by your customers!

@edluvsj At this time, we do not have any news on this feature request. It has been sent to our devs for their consideration, but it is not currently being worked on. If we hear that this feature will be brought in development, we will provide an update.

For a company that advertises their simplicity and customer service they are sure doing a poor job letting their customer base know the status of a highly requested enhancement. Especially because many comments are showing they are losing customers to competitors because of the lack of this feature

This is an absolute must. The system would be a lot more useful. I end up turning my cameras motion detection off in the morning to use the area they monitor without a million notifications, and inevitably I forget to turn them back on. The lack of this feature alone has me regretting switching from Arlo cameras
