Outdoor Camera only notify when Armed

Is there a way to set an outdoor camera to only notify when the system is armed (away & home)? I use my back porch a lot in the summer and don't want the outdoor camera recording and notifying me every time someone gets up from their chair to go inside or refill a drink glass. Thanks so much for any help!!

Hi @jndankert ,

At this time, no. The Outdoor Camera is set to be active at all times. I will of course pass your feedback on to our camera team!

@davey_d Is this setting in the works? I'm with the others... Kind of troubling to have this trigger and alert when we're out pulling weeds.

@davey_d I'm curious if the replies and comments in this forum are even monitored by the admins or simplySafe?

Seems we have a no-brainer feature that no one cares to comment on or address.

@davey_d  This is why I haven't added this to my system. If I'm home and system (off) , I want the option to not have it recording. Only record if system is armed. (away/home).

I came here to make this exact request. The camera is decent, but without this fairly simple feature, I have shut off notifications altogether - rendering it essentially useless.

Yes I agree. I have placed this camera indoors.  I cannot have it notifying and turning on the light at all times.  It needs a feature to turn on motion when system is armed.

Any update on this / is this setting in the works?!

I have placed this camera in my balcony and kids are keep on going in the balcony which triggers the alert and drain my battery. Normally, if the camera battery need to be charged every 3 months, I need to charge every month and over time it will go down further.

Installed my first outdoor camera and just learned that it can’t be armed/disarmed as the rest of the system. Hard planned on buying more cameras, but not now and will probably look into returning this one.

I have the same issue - unless I know this is coming I will return the camera and put an indoor camera outside with the hood like I have other places. I wanted this camera to not have to run wires for power, but it is useless notifying all the time.  Is there anyone at Simplisafe who can commit to making this available? Seems like a simple software fix. Want to have no notifications when the alarm is off.

thank you

Is this on the schedule for the next update? The outdoor cameras have been a pain during the summer with all the notifications?

would really like to have this as an option as well.

Please add this. It shouldn't be difficult to do.

I just want to say I am 100% satisfied with Simplisafe except the outdoor cameras. Can you please comment are updates on the way? Camera notifications have to be tied to alarm status. How in the world can I tell if it is an intruder if I am getting a billion notifications. If that is not on the roadmap I completely understand but I don’t want to keep waiting for it and I should go with another provider. I think that is a very reasonable ask no?

I am also OK with scheduled alerts. The outdoor cameras need to be smarter. @davey_d

Please pass this to the Product team ASAP.  The battery keeps dying on my camera rendering it useless!

@a_d_ramirez Yes, agreed... ours just died and we've had it less than 2 months.  Extremely frustrating.

It would be very helpful to set the outdoor motion camera to only record when the alarm is set to on. Also, to be able to only receive notifications of motion when the alarm is set to on. It’s in our backyard and with kids playing during the day it’s wasting the camera battery. I only care about movement at night or when we’re away. Seems like that should be a setting we could use.

you are not alone. Besides the three minute camera recording bug fix I would say this is the number 1 most requested feature. The only thing we can do is keep asking and keep up the pressure.

We haven’t had a camera update in months so I am hoping they are working on a big update.

@Jtheis79 A great idea! And shouldn't be too hard to implement, SS...

I just installed camera on back patio which I use for entertaining and every night for spa. I did not realize the motion sensor is always on or always off.  I assumed that it could be “armed” to only work in Home or Away mode.  That is my request.  Otherwise I either have to constantly turn motion setting on and off or be subjected to a continuous stream of motion alerts.  This will also affect battery life.

Need a way to set a schedule for outdoor cameras monitoring/notifications for ALL cameras. I work from home and everyday have to manually switch off 5 cameras…  I can’t believe this functionality doesn’t exist…
