Manually set event recording times for Cameras
How can we set the recording time? Why can’t it be as long as we are watching or until we stop the manual recording? I was monitoring and then recording an intruder and the recording stopped just as their face would have been visible.

This feature shouldn’t even be a question, it should just be a given. You don’t see video cameras or smartphones sold with the ability to only record for a certain amount of time, do you? Security cameras should not be an exception. Of course recording time will be limited by battery life and storage capacity, but it’s easy to stick a line of code in the app that gives users an estimate of those limitations based on the user’s preferred settings. If the problem is overloading SimpliSafe’s cloud storage/servers, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to just add a rule that videos over X minutes long will only be stored for a limited time, and put the onus on the user to download any long videos to a personal device or hard drive.
On a related note, whenever my driveway camera’s motion sensor is triggered, the recording often starts too late to catch the person/animal. I have mine set to high sensitivity so I can also monitor wildlife, and most of the time, by the time it starts recording, the critter has already scampered off. It happens with humans sometimes, too, like it won’t record a delivery person until they’re already leaving the property. Kind of defeats the purpose of a security camera.

Agree.. this should be an option to manually set the time cameras record. Additionally the delay time for the start of the recording is awful... WAY too long, a person could run right by it and not be caught on camera at all.

Why is having the option to extend interior motion detection not being addressed? 1 minute is not sufficient. Plus, there is a lag time before the motion begins to record after it is activated and capturing the intrusion.

don’t understand why someone would want to record a meeting? …. REALLY? lol…. Well, I’m not going to address that, I don’t have enough crayons, but I’m SURE you can see the reasoning for wanting to record over ONE Minute! …. Right? I have since implemented “FOSCAMS” into my SimpliSafe System as well as RING for Outside. The FOSCAMS offer both “CLOUD and SD card Recordings for as long as you dang well please as WELL as the SUPER Feature of PTZ!!!! But. Have found the Simplisafes to have the Clearest and most Intricate Pictures of them ALL, while the FOSCAMS offer the most Add ons, and of course the RINGS for their SOLAR abilities! So to have all your bases covered you almost HAVE to have 3 different Brands, and the 3 I’ve mentioned are the best out there for the money! …

I'm pretty disappointed with my outdoor camera (new model). The motion sensing sensitivity has tanked. I'm lucky if it catches someone 10ft from the camera coming up the stairs to the porch. It used to capture cars in the driveway, people coming and going, etc. I'm going to end up building my own camera system (Wifi, DVR, cloud storage, etc.) and ditching the Simplisafe cams altogether.

I agree with other posts here. I was awakened this morning by my camera when a vehicle pulled up to my garage. The short length of the recording only allowed seeing a person opening their car door. The next snippet of recording showed the vehicle exiting. Did this person get out of the vehicle? No clear image of this person’s face was recorded either.

Definitely a SimpliSafe failure. Our neighbor was robbed recently and even though the criminal walked in front of our house we only got ~10 seconds recorded. No ability to see what direction he may have gone but it stopped while he was still walking on our sidewalk.

Camera record time should have options.. much like how long you want your siren to go off or how much time you have to leave/enter when alarm active. By the time the camera picks up some movement it's useless because it's switching off. They do need to fix this and let the user decide. Minutes is all we are asking, not hours Simplisafe!

Recording time is way too short.

I too am looking to extend recording times. I am extremely disappointed to see this was requested a long time ago and still has not been an option offered to customers.

This seems like an extremely basic request. Recordings are needed for more situations than just emergency/panic scenarios. If the "detect people" setting is on, why stop recording when people and movement are still happening in frame?

Simplisafe: This problem has been happening ever since I've been a customer which is over 5 years. I think it's time that Simplisafe makes an official announcement as to whether or not they are going to fix this problem. The cameras are basically useless when you need them. Isn't the purpose of the cameras is to record in emergency situations? I have 8 cameras so hopefully one of them will stay recording long enough so the police will have something to go on. This shouldn't be a problem. Just fix it and let your customers know when is going to happen.

I would like to see the option to enable continuous recording for cameras that are plugged in. We frequently miss events because the camera is not recording continuously, doesn’t start recording quickly enough, or stops recording too soon following the motion. Allow end users the option in the app to control how and when their cameras record and simply set up video data purge parameters, for instance, video feeds are deleted after 24-48 hours if not saved or downloaded.
I recently experienced a security issue that the camera COULD have caught, had it been recording continuously. But it did not and only picked up a few seconds following the event when it detected motion again, so without video evidence, there was nothing the police could really do. It is disappointing to have spent so much money on these cameras and not be able to use them. I am having to purchase a secondary set of non-Simplisafe cameras to supplement.

Hello,
When someone initiates a manual recording on Outdoor camera, it maximum records for 1 minute.
I believe someone is manually recording because they notice some incident is happening outside. Please extend the functionality to record the camera manually for much longer time.
