Option to Disable Login Verification Completely

2 step verification was not a requirement when I signed up in 2019.  My phone app was always ready when I wanted to use it.  I haven't needed it for a while.  So a couple of days ago I'm driving and get a call from the monitoring service.  After I get off the phone, I try to open the app.  What?  It wants a password.  I don't remember the password.  So I have to drive back home to see whats going on on the keypad.  I go find the password for the app.  Still can't use it.  Now it wants me to go to my email.  I don't want to have to do this.  I'm the paying customer.  I want the option to turn off 2 step verification.    Customer service was a waste of time.  SIMPLISAFE, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

Hi @gulftide2000,

Account Verification is now a requirement when logging into the SimpliSafe mobile app. This is to further secure your account and make sure that no bad actors can gain access to it.

If you do not want to use 2-Step Verification, you can use Multi-Factor Authentication instead. With Multi-Factor Authentication, a confirmation code will be sent to your phone via SMS. For more details on setting this up, check out the Multi-Factor Authentication for SimpliSafe Accounts article in our Help Center.

Thanks for your reply but I don't want 2 step or multi-factor anything.  I'm the paying customer and I should have the option to have it my way.  I was happy with the way it was before this became an unwanted requirement.

@gulftide2000 as a security company, we take steps to protect all of our users' accounts, and enabling login verification is an extremely important piece of that.

However, it's important to know that with Multi-Factor Authentication enabled, you won't have to go through the process every time. Once you're logged in for the first time on your device, it will stay logged in indefinitely unless you:

  • Install the SimpliSafe app on a different device
  • Delete the SimpliSafe app from your device and reinstall
  • Stop using the SimpliSafe app for 30 days

I'm a security nut myself, this MFA isn't even strong enough to suit me, without it I'd either never have purchased or instantly trash it.🤔 💡 Almost everything is getting hacked these days.

You'll probably not find any or many online systems these days that doesn't have some form of security authentication because of hacking, and even then it's still hackable.

A necessary evil unfortunately.
