Permitting

My locality requires a monitored alarm permit and ECV. I have already completed the steps for ECV (2 primary contacts) but don’t yet see a permit number on my monitoring account. My account with another company is active until the end of this month. Is there anyone who has experienced these circumstances I describe and if so what was the turnaround time for getting the first-time permit issued?

@mikehayes9785 A quick call to customer service and assist with this, and suggest you invest some time to speak with the authorities in you town about eliminating the permitting process entirely.

When I got my original SS2 system in 2012, I applied for a permit and paid the $35 fee. Two years later the smoke and CO sensors came out, and stopped by the fire HQ.  I was very surprised that the new majoy, a buisnessman, brought in a consultant the year before on his dime and reviewed all aspects of the local government.  The village was surprised to find they lost $ on evey permit, and the abscense of a permit wouldn't change the operational protocol at all.  While monitoroing companies continue to be licesned, residents are not!  Good deal.

The problem is I live in the outskirts of a major city, which itself was created by a merger between city and county government.

The process is a little different for getting things changed here.

You have to go through multiple layers of bureaucracy to get even the simplest of tasks done. Think plumbing and electrical permits. Usually changes to city operating procedures only happen after one of their mistakes causes riots and/or makes national news. I hardly think anyone is rioting over a $15 extra fine on their false alarm call.

@mikehayes9785 If you already have a monitoring plan activated, you can find all the information for permitting at your location from your account in the web app, here:

  1. After you log in to your account, navigate to Menu > Monitoring.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom right of this page, and look for Alarm Permit Requirements.
  3. Click the link, and the popup will include all of the info that you need.

Once we receive your Permit Number, we'll update your account and you'll be able to see it under the "Additional Information" section of your account. I cannot confirm the turnaround time on getting the Permit Number, though. If you are not yet subscribed, or if you need any further assistance, please reach out to our dedicated Permits team at permits@simplisafe.com.
