How to cancel service

How do I cancel my service? I'm unable to get anyone on the phone for the last few weeks.

Basically, when it comes down to it, you can't cancel your service.  You will be told it's cancelled, but Simpliafe won't actually cancel it in the hope that you don't notice and they can continue to steal your money.   It seems to be a policy at SimpliSafe and a corrupt way to make some extra money.

I cancelled my plan in Sept of last year, and then in December I noticed I was still being charged every month.  I had to call to get the refunds, and was told the issue was resolved.  However, I had to call again in January because they were still charging me.

This time I was told that my plan was automatically re-activeated because I accessed a camera. You read that correctly.  This is a direct quote from an email from a SimpliSafe representative: "...you manually reactivate the simplisafe plan for 9.99 that includes the camera information."  He literally told me I can not even access a simplisafe camera whatsoever without paying at least $9.99 per month.  Needless to say, the contradicts all SimpliSafe advertising.

In the process of all of this and after dozens of phone calls and emails, I was finally assured that my plan was indeed cancelled and that I would still have access to the live feeds from my cameras. I cancelled my credit card just in case, and I'm glad I did.  They continued to try to charge me.

Which brings us to today, where I received a nasty message from SimpliSafe stating that my monitoring plan account was past due and I needed to pay immediately.  There is no active plan, because my alarm triggers all the time and I don't get camera recordings.

As it stands, I submitted complaints to the BBB, FTC, and Attorney General.  We'll see if anything works or if they get to continue being a corrupt company.

I'm very sorry to hear about this - you should be able to access a livestream of your cameras without a paid monitoring plan. I've escalated your case to our Support team, a Senior Specialist will contact you soon to make this right.

I'm currently on hold and have been for over 20 mins. This is ridiculous that this is the only way to cancel. When your customer retention strategy is "force people to call to cancel and then leave them on hold until they hang up" you are not going to make it as a company. Would no longer recommend this company.

It should not be this hard to cancel service. We sold the home and the system to the new buyer, and I called in today to simply cancel the service at that address. The new owner will call next week after closing to set it up in their name. This CAN'T be such an unusual request.

After giving all of the information to the offshore representative, they put me on hold 4 times while verifying -- then came back and told me that the hold time for "the specialist" was 8 minutes. WHY SHOULD SUCH A NORMAL REQUEST REQUIRE A SPECIALIST?

I waited on hold for another 8 minutes until the "specialist" came on to simply tell me that this would be effective today. I said, "Wait, the closing is on Tuesday - I'm just calling to cancel the service after closing." Was told that I would have to call a different number for that.

Needless to say, the cancellation is effective today (because I'm NOT calling back), and I hope nothing happens to the house during the time between now and closing on Tuesday.

@kprice2205​ To cancel your monitoring plan, please give us a call at 888-783-8441. Once the agent verbally confirms your account's Safe Word, they will be able to cancel your monitoring subscription.

What a bogus statement -- claiming that you need to "verbally confirm your account's Safe Word." SS sucks.

Biden just passed a rule that subscription services need to be as easy to cancel as to sign up, and they have to remind you every 6 months.  I'm really looking forward to that going into effect.

@wei​ Apologies for any issues you may have ran into when canceling your monitoring plan. In order to cancel the plan, you do need to call our Support team, but agents are available on the phone every day from 8am-midnight ET. 

I see that you were able to get in touch with our Support team earlier today, and they successfully canceled your monitoring plan.

I just noticed that SimpliSafe deleted my response to this post, which was originally submitted in 2023 and was, until they deleted it, the accepted solution to this thread! Here it is again verbatim:

Until SimpliSafe chooses to comply with FTC, New York, and California policy, I highly recommend anyone coming across this post notify the appropriate agencies of this abusive practice:

FTC: Go here and fill out the form for 'Online shopping'. You do not have to fill everything out, but if you answer 'Yes' to 'Did you pay or send money', enter your subscription cost and payment method, and indicate it is a recurring charge, you can explicitly identify that 'I had difficulty cancelling a recurring charge'.

California residents: Go here and fill out the form to file a complaint with the Attorney General

New York residents: Go here and fill out the form to file a complaint with the Attorney General

There should be a simple cancel button on customer's account page. Calling in and waiting for the second person now to help complete a cancelation..a long hold. It seems set up for customer retention and not to support the customer. Finally got the second person who asked what I wanted to update on my system and I had already said I want to cancel it to the first person. I think? she did cancel it, she was brief and curt. Just basically said ok and hung up. Not simple, or professsional, Simplisafe! Your equipment is so mickey mouse. Cheap and the lag is ridiculous despite buying the best stuff you offer with the set up (at a cost). What a total waste of 1k. We had it installed by one of the companies you contract with and things weren't done well, never worked properly.

@TammyG In order to cancel or downgrade your monitoring plan, give our Support team a call at 888-783-8441. After our agents verbally verify your Safe Word, they will go through with the cancellation.

Piece of junk, everything went off, key pad doesn’t work anymore and my outdoor camera and indoor camera are working. I’ve tried everything to reset it the system just stopped working. Don’t waste your money

This system #003F8CE4 was NEVER installed in my residence. The actual unit was thrown out when we moved. PLEASE CANCEL my service.

To all: Unfortunately, even the likes of major commercial banks force you to speak with an agent in the "Loyalty Dept" after you already spoke with one of their customer service agents to cancel a credit card. The agent was very nice and said "she had to read about 5 minutes of disclosures. I told her hoped she liked my play list in the background, as I played Spotify in the background and worked on a project on my pc while she read away.

5 minutes I heard "I'm done", took her off speaker, asked if I was cancelled, she said yes and wisher her and her family a very nice valentine's day (Yeah Feb 24).  I did move my monitoring plan down from Active Guard to Core while SS makes a few changes and must say the cancellation process was quick, easy and the agent was very friendly and professional.  SS really needs to allow click to cancel in a secure area, and for customers like me, require a call in to verify before any changes, up, down or cancellations are done.

Just my 2 cents...again.
