3rd generation base station

If a newer base station is used to replace the original base station will all of the existing sensors and camera work with the third generation base station?

The camera will work because it doesn't really have anything to do with the base, but nothing else is backward or forward compatible.

The old system used signals between components which were not encrypted.  The new system uses encrypted signals.  Thus the old components see the new signals as gobbledegook, and the new system sees the old signals as invalid.  Thus no components (except the cameras, which don't talk to the SS system) can interchange.

Yep, whoaru99 and sevensiamesecats are correct. Gen3 uses a totally different communication between sensors, you'll need to replace the sensors as well.

The cameras, which connect to our service through WiFi (so they work independently from the security system) can work with both Gen 2 and Gen 3 systems.

But if you're considering an upgrade, don't forget that we offer 50% off any new system! Give our Sales team a call at 800-548-9508 and we'll put the package together for you.

Why would I upgrade to a new base station and keypad when all of my current sensors would have to be replaced.  50 to 70 % reduction off a new system wouldn't make me change.

@fultonrm64Upgrading to our Gen 3 system isn't necessary, if you have an Original SimpliSafe system we've got your back! We'll continue to offer service and troubleshooting support for as long as you need it.

But the Gen 3 system is an improvement. Our sleeker, smarter sensors can communicate at a longer distance, and more securely, while the Base Station can now be continually updated over WiFi for feature updates and security improvements. Not to mention, you'll also be able to add all the new devices to our lineup, like the Smart Lock, Smart Alarm Indoor Camera, and many more additions on the way!
