Would like to discuss all the ongoing fee increases

I received a notice that my monthly invoice is going up by $2/month. Last year it also went up by $2/month. The year before that it went up by $3/month. So that's up by $7/month over just the past 3 years from $14.99/month originally. That's like a 50% increase in just 3 years!

In April I also learned that my permit had been suspended for 7 years without Simplisafe ever notifying me about it! When SimpliSafe finally notified me I paid the permit fees and then monitoring was turned on again. But for 7 years what was I paying for without the permit?
It seems I'm paying increases every year now, and even with the increases Simplisafe couldn't let me know about a permit suspension...
I'd really like some sort of explanation.
As you know my billing address was later updated, but you always had my email address.
Thank you,
Doug

Not ANOTHER price increase?!?! I will confirm once the email comes, but I will look into purchasing a new system from another company. I will take the hit on the upfront equipment costs for a more stable monthly fee. I sometimes get lost in familiarity/convenience and am only made to realize other options are better when forced to switch/change. For instance, removing cable television was one of my best decisions in the past ten years. Most recently, my domain registrar has been increasing costs per domain (.COM) by $3-$4 yearly, while Verisign is increasing costs by 70 cents. These inconveniences are a wake-up call in 2024 (in many instances). It took me a year of research before settling on SimpliSafe. As a 10+ year customer, if it takes a year to find another company, at least it will be right around the time another hike takes place.

At this point, it is beyond ridiculous and appears to be greedflation. For me, it is not so much about the price as the question of when it will end. I will not support a yearly increase.

@shiherlis It does seem as though they are now into yearly increases. And it's obviously not for better service if they didn't tell me that the permit had expired 7 years ago!

The problem is once they hook you in it's quite difficult to change to a different security service. They know that, and so I guess that's why they do it.

The only reason I even posted here was because I couldn't find anybody to discuss this with in support. The permit department wouldn't forward my inquiry to support and just gave me this address, so I posted here.

Sigh.

Hi @doug7dd9ad,

I apologize to hear this regarding your permit. Permits are controlled by the municipality where you reside, so your city should have contacted you when they noticed an issue with your permit. Our permits team is also always available to help answer any questions you may have at permits@simplisafe.com. I've already escalated your case to them, and a member of the team will be in touch to help discuss this further.

We do our best to keep our prices stable and only make modest changes when truly necessary to continue investing to provide you with the best possible experience and security. Keeping our customers safe and making that safety as accessible as possible is our priority. For more info on how this may impact you, visit the Help Center.

@emily_s Thanks for your reply. But please note that the price has increased by about 50% - with increases each year for the last 3 years. So it's sort of surprising.

I've been in touch with the permits team. And we sorted it out. But my permit was apparently down for 7 years without anyone at SimpliSafe letting me know! Don't your different teams talk with each other? They told me they couldn't communicate with support, which is why I ended up posting here. The alarm system itself doesn't indicate whether the permit is active or not anywhere?

Thank you.

@doug7dd9ad A stupid question here: during the years that your permit expired, was SS still providing monitoring services and, if there was an alarm, dispatch the police? If the answer is no, then I would request (and then demand) a refund. Also, did you have to pay your local government authority a fine for the lapsed permit?

@doug7dd9ad I have no idea what permit you are talking about but I hope to God they aren't increasing prices (in my case nearly 50% in 4 years) and then not even able to legally respond.  Talk about a class action lawsuit waiting to happen!

This is so disappointing.  In 2022, the $3 increase came with a proud statement that it was the first time in 10 years they have had to increase the costs.  Then came another price increase last year and another this year.  It is hard to look at this company the same way I did 3 years ago.  Well it is now worth the trouble to see what else is out there.

@hlwissmobile When you do look, recommend you do not go to ADT. Former customer of 10 years, they are cheats, liars etc.  For me, SS while not perfect, is still the best overall value and most effective solution out there.

@hlwissmobile It does feel like they are aiming for even higher prices with yearly increments going forward. They know we are in a bind where it's hard to move. It's disappointing.

By the way, the email notifications that arrive from these forums don't show the link to get back in a visible way. They are there, but in a blackened-out area of the message. I just coincidentally found it.

This is what the email notification looked like to me.

Makes sense, they are spending all of that money making things better.. that's why the web site sucks and the AI bot cannot do anything for you.  Psh.

Add another to the disappointed customer list for the now annual price increases.  What has gotten better for the higher price?  Video response remains painfully slow and recording time limitations result in missing important information constantly.  Am I missing some great improvement in the offering over the past year or two?  I would have emailed customer service, but can't. I would have even used the chat function, but it's a bot.  The only thing I do see more of is requests to refer a friend - ha!

Exactly - for 40% more I would expect to see at LEAST 10% better service or SOMETHING more for MY money.  I think SS is working like the federal government.

If EVERYBODY switches to the self-monitor plan and their rate increases backfire, maybe the executives who are making this happen will wake up.   I'm switching before this latest increase hits!

I joined your service due to the value of service.  It was a "perfect" marriage, low cost with a great product/service.  I see you have grown and profits are more important and you forgotten who helped you grow.  I'm now looking again to see who will replace your service due to your rising cost.

It's time to look somewhere else.  I'm not happy either.
