Outdoor Camera Won't Connect to Wi-Fi

Tried numerous times on each camera, same results. Cameras won’t connect to WiFi. Now doorbell cam won’t go back online. No issues with system before last update. Keeping services for panic buttons on wife and daughters nightstands cause I work nights sometimes. Cameras are next to my bed, cause I can at least throw them at an intruder, basically their only use right mow

Hi @Whiteyford13,

I broke off your comment into its own post so we could troubleshoot your cameras further here.

Regarding the Outdoor Cameras, as a first step I would recommend resetting each camera by pressing and holding the reset button on the back for 30 seconds. Once you release the button, you'll be prompted to set the camera back up in the SimpliSafe mobile app.

If a reset doesn't help, I would then recommend bringing the Outdoor Cameras about 5-10 feet away from the router and try reconnecting them to Wi-Fi again.

To troubleshoot the Video Doorbell, I would recommend using the in-app Connection Check tool to check its connection strength. The Connection Check tool will run a scan of the camera and provide additional tips there to help improve its Wi-Fi connection. You can use this tool in the SimpliSafe mobile app by taking the following steps:

  1. Tap the “Cameras” icon at the bottom of the SimpliSafe® mobile app

  2. Choose the gear icon in the upper right corner

  3. Select your camera

  4. Under “Connection” select “Connection Check”

  5. Tap “Start Connection Check” to find your camera’s connection strength

I have been having massive problems with connecting Simplisafe outdoor cameras to wifi just like many people. After hours of troubleshooting and 6 calls to support, I finally got a tech who didnt just read from the script. He said there is a known problem with mesh networks and told me to get an extender and set up a separate SSID. This finally worked. So if you are having this problem, buy a cheap extender and set up a separate network at 2.4ghz and WPA2 security. It worked for me.

@gillm_is it's true that we've had trouble with mesh networks in the past - partially because some mesh networks don't allow you to lock the frequency to 2.4GHz, or they may use different ways of managing the connection that our cameras are not compatible with.

A WiFi Extender is a good workaround. We even have one with known good compatibility, available on our online shop!

@gillm_is extended network set up doesn’t work either. This is a known problem for many of us and Simplisafe’s isn’t dealing with the issue. I hope they fix it so we all aren’t left with expensive paperweights. Deal with it simplisafe!

That for this post - I am getting all of their stuff out of my house and will try to find a more modern (tech wise) security company that does not insist on using 802.11g still and supports modern wifi.
