doorbell installation issues

I tried to install doorbell last night.  I connected the two wires from old doorbell button, mounted doorbell, and the chime in the house rings continuously - without pushing the doorbell button.  I took apart and reversed the wires - same result.  I left the doorbell attached for approximately 10 minutes - but it never lit up - as if it was not getting power.  I'm pretty sure the wires are 16VAC which should be enough.  Does anybody have any suggestions?  I plan to try again tonight, and call customer service if I can't get it to work, but was hoping to have some things to try myself.

I'm concerned that the doorbell itself did not "power up'.  I see there is a micro USB port on the back.  Is it possible to power it with a micro USB cord?  I'd like to confirm the doorbell itself is not faulty.
I APPRECIATE any thoughts or ideas.  Super excited to get this working.

The issue in this post may be resolved by installing a Chime Connector, which can help supply the correct voltage to your Video Doorbell Pro. For more info, please visit this Help Center article.

I just received my SS camera doorbell. After following the directions explicitly it was not connecting to the wifi. After several calls to tech support and a reset, the camera was connected and the doorbell worked; I even received a notification when someone came to the door. I edited the settings for week motion at night in case an animal walked by, wind blew the trees etc.... and at 1am the doorbell started ringing continuously and would not shut off. I took the simplisafe doorbell off the wall, kept ringing, I even disconnected the wires to the SS doorbell, kept ringing; felt like it was cursed. I had to go to the ringer on the wall and disconnect the wires from actual doorbell. The customer service line takes forever, 1.) they always ask for my safe word and for the doorbell you don't have one & 2.) they always act like I'm the first one with this problem and seem discouraged and upset I called.

Has this happened to anyone else? I would like to fix it but don't want to be woken up again at 1am. I'd return it but from what I read I wouldn't get a full refund. Any solutions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How does this work? With customer support email me or do users reply directly through this thread?

If other forum users are familiar with the problem, they'll try to help with posts.  Otherwise, it's best to call SS for assistance (yes sometimes their phone lines are a long wait, keep trying, maybe try early mornings when they first open at 8 am, ET).  Sorry, I don't have the doorbell so unable to advise.

I have the Simplisafe security system from several years ago.

I recently purchased the video doorbell to add in, a Nutone LA600WH chime to go with it and a new Hampton Bay 16VAC/30VA  transformer, but I was skeptical because of possible compatibility issues I have read about.

When I hooked it up, it would not stop chiming the new chime I installed. I did some searching for reviews about this issue with electronic chimes, and learned it may be some wiring issues for some reason, but that Simplisafe would give you a devise to correct this.
After I called Simplisafe, they sent me out a 4 wire switch that I was able to  trim up the wires to fit, and connect to the chime. Worked great after that. Doorbell works properly and Video is nice as well.

A side note from my experience. After sliding the Video doorbell into place, just give it a minute to power up fully, works great after that. My house is a 2007, and the doorbell was the older Nutone mechanical unit.

Hope this helps, good luck.

hi

were you actually able to use your nutone LA600WH or did you have to use a mechanical chime?

Video Doorbell Pro(blem)

We got our SimpliSafe about a year ago when we moved into our new house. The door sensors, camera, base station, key pad, and app all work great. We were recently gifted a Video Doorbell Pro, however, and it's been a confusing, frustrating experience.

The installation of the actual doorbell was easy. But we, too, were faced with constant ringing once we flipped the circuit breaker back on. I tried adding a diode, which changed nothing. I then called SimpliSafe, and they told us that the Video Doorbell Pro -- a modern, 21st century product -- WILL NOT WORK with a digital doorbell chime. Period, end of sentence -- no other solutions were offered.

This is an absurd problem to have. I refuse to believe that a product that was designed and engineered for simple use in the current era of life -- one that was made to provide modern technology and accessibility -- doesn't work with digital doorbell chimes.

Am I missing something? Seriously considering swapping out our entire system for another one because of this.

@jpbeatty I'm not quite sure what you mean - are the comments in this thread not visible to you?

But if you're having the same issue as the original post, then you might need a Chime Connector, which makes sure that the correct voltage is supplied to the Video Doorbell. Our Support team at 800-548-9508 can send you one free of charge.

@arjun_tey Do you get any error message when your Video Doorbell tries to scan the QR code, or does it just refuse to scan?

If there is no error message and the QR code isn't scanning, I would check to make sure that your device it showing the code in its entirety with the three concentric squares visible - like how we see in the image below.

It can also help to slowly move your phone closer to your camera, and then slowly pull it away to help scan the code. We also list out additional troubleshooting steps to take to scan your QR code in this Help Center article.
