doorbell installation issues
I tried to install doorbell last night. I connected the two wires from old doorbell button, mounted doorbell, and the chime in the house rings continuously - without pushing the doorbell button. I took apart and reversed the wires - same result. I left the doorbell attached for approximately 10 minutes - but it never lit up - as if it was not getting power. I'm pretty sure the wires are 16VAC which should be enough. Does anybody have any suggestions? I plan to try again tonight, and call customer service if I can't get it to work, but was hoping to have some things to try myself.
I'm concerned that the doorbell itself did not "power up'. I see there is a micro USB port on the back. Is it possible to power it with a micro USB cord? I'd like to confirm the doorbell itself is not faulty.
I APPRECIATE any thoughts or ideas. Super excited to get this working.
The issue in this post may be resolved by installing a Chime Connector, which can help supply the correct voltage to your Video Doorbell Pro. For more info, please visit this Help Center article. |

Has this happened to anyone else? I would like to fix it but don't want to be woken up again at 1am. I'd return it but from what I read I wouldn't get a full refund. Any solutions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I recently purchased the video doorbell to add in, a Nutone LA600WH chime to go with it and a new Hampton Bay 16VAC/30VA transformer, but I was skeptical because of possible compatibility issues I have read about.
When I hooked it up, it would not stop chiming the new chime I installed. I did some searching for reviews about this issue with electronic chimes, and learned it may be some wiring issues for some reason, but that Simplisafe would give you a devise to correct this.
After I called Simplisafe, they sent me out a 4 wire switch that I was able to trim up the wires to fit, and connect to the chime. Worked great after that. Doorbell works properly and Video is nice as well.
A side note from my experience. After sliding the Video doorbell into place, just give it a minute to power up fully, works great after that. My house is a 2007, and the doorbell was the older Nutone mechanical unit.
Hope this helps, good luck.

We got our SimpliSafe about a year ago when we moved into our new house. The door sensors, camera, base station, key pad, and app all work great. We were recently gifted a Video Doorbell Pro, however, and it's been a confusing, frustrating experience.
The installation of the actual doorbell was easy. But we, too, were faced with constant ringing once we flipped the circuit breaker back on. I tried adding a diode, which changed nothing. I then called SimpliSafe, and they told us that the Video Doorbell Pro -- a modern, 21st century product -- WILL NOT WORK with a digital doorbell chime. Period, end of sentence -- no other solutions were offered.
This is an absurd problem to have. I refuse to believe that a product that was designed and engineered for simple use in the current era of life -- one that was made to provide modern technology and accessibility -- doesn't work with digital doorbell chimes.
Am I missing something? Seriously considering swapping out our entire system for another one because of this.
