KNOWN ISSUE: Indoor Camera Recordings/Livestream Noise
I just received one indoor camera and it's squealing so bad I just shut it down. I called support and they went through the whole deal of removing camera from the system and reinstalling it and it worked for 5 minutes then the noise returned. I'm tired of wasting my time on the phone with them when they won't fix anything. the first thing they want to do is send you a new camera only to have it do the same thing. SimpliSafe has had this problem for over a year, and they still won't fix it. Just do a search here and pay attention to the date and you will see how long it's been, and a fix still hasn't been offered. The same thing with their outdoor cameras, they are so slow waking up that a thief can walk up and steal your package off your step and walk away before the cameras even start recording. If they can't fix their product, they should offer refunds to everyone who bought these cameras. It's a shame really because the rest of their system is great, but the cameras are junk.
they know about the problem and said new equipment is coming in December that may fix it
get hold of technical services and get them to agree to replace them. Get an email confirmation that they will.
only other option is to return them during the warranty period
@larrhurd I agree. Great system except the cameras. It’s a shame. The outside ones are the worst. SOOOO SLOW TO WAKE UP. They are pointless and a literal waste of money.
Update on the outside cameras. SimpliSafe sent two more outside cameras and the new cams updated to the new firmware 1.10. I installed them and so far, they have worked great. Almost instant notifications and a very fast wake up time. I tried to reinstall the older ones that are being sent back and they will not update to the new 1.10 firmware, doesn't matter what I tried they say that the latest update is installed. Just wondering if the new cameras have different hardware in them. Now back to the indoor camera, I called support again about the squealing noise and they say that some indoor cams have a bad audio system installed and they are sending a new cam, we shall see. Now that the outdoor cams seem to be fixed, I feel more comfortable buying a couple more for my system.
It's likely that those older Outdoor Cams just haven't been updated yet. As you know, that process is automatic, so there's nothing to do on your end. We'll get the update to your device soon.
Of course, replacements come straight from our warehouse, and those are flashed with the latest firmware before being sent out.
The new cams I received were not updated already, they still had version 1.4 on them. I removed them from system and reinstalled them that's when they downloaded and installed the new firmware. Tried the same thing on the old cams several times and when they checked for updates and said that they had the latest firmware which showed 1.7.

Mine sounds like a dryer is running and clothes knocking around inside...
I just received another replacement indoor cam, this is my third one, and it seems to be working as it should. no noise whatsoever and the speaker volume is a lot better than the old ones. hopefully this camera will stay working like it is.
@larrhurd Nice. My replacement SimpliCam had the same issue, so I sent it back again.I am receiving my 3rd one in. a week. Hopefully the third time's the charm.
Now curious to see if they will replace everyone else’s! I had one replaced and when I complained about the second one doing the same thing, they just told me that was normal nothing they can do about it.
Our engineering team is still working on a solution to this issue, which is indeed something to do with the hardware. When we have a solution, we'll make sure you know.
I have the same issue. My camera's software version is v22.214.171.124.
I called SimpliSafe two days ago ( 11/23, Wednesday ) , and they sent a replacement. I should get my replacement in ~5 days.
So I talked to SimpliSafe and they sent me a replacement SimpliCam.
I set it up, and I have the exact same issue.
I have to say it is quite frustrating because I have the same issue for both old and new SimpliCam. Yet both you and SimpliSafe rep told me that this issue is uncommon.
Is there any info I can provide that can help your team repro?
Also, is this a software issue or a hardware issue?
When viewing my cameras ( I have 9 ), they all have a strange noise coming through the app on the phone. It sounds like a motor or a windmill, something rotating. anyone else experience this?
I came here due to the static noise coming from my brand new SimpliSafe indoor camera. Anytime I view the camera from my phone (regardless of how far away I am from the camera), there is a constant static noise. I’m not sure I could even hear my dog barking over it - it’s that loud. I guess SimpliSafe is fine with this? No-one seems to care enough to reply to any of us. The static is BEYOND annoying!
I have the same issue with our indoor camera and also get an echo of my own voice. Look forward to the solution!
@ttaylor unfortunately I don't believe we're going to get one, since this has been going on for years...
I have 4 simplicams and they all do it and I have had them for at least 7 years and some are louder than others but I have learned to deal with it after all this time but I have noticed some have a higher firmware number than others so not sureif the older ones have can take a update or not
Indoor Camera produces loud squealing & ticking noises. Very annoying. Replace or is there a solution?
@Nick is this noise coming through from the livestream, or from the device itself?
This thread is tracking other users who are experiencing a noise in the livestream/recordings. This is a known hardware issue that is currently in progress to resolution. We'll keep you updated when we have more info.
