Smoke alarm disposal?

I have a SSSD1 smoke detector that I no longer can use. How can I dispose of it?

My county recycling center will not take smoke detectors and recommends returning smoke detectors to the manufacturer.

@wrat please contact our Support team. They can assist you with getting a return label to send this product back to us to recycle.

Here's what the support team told me.

"Since we are not able to create a return label you can just dispose the device on your end."

I am not impressed.

The above response was from the chat agent. I called and talked to someone, and they said they will be sending a return label. (not received yet)

@wrat have you checked your email? That's where they send the return label then you print them out. I have done this quite a bit over the years.
