Please Note: On December 2nd, we announced that a new software update is available for your SimpliSafe Gen 3 system. Good news: that software will be rolling out to your Base Station over the next few days. Be on the lookout for a gear icon on your Keypad.
Additional software updates will be coming soon to further improve your SimpliSafe experience. In the next month, we will be updating the software for our Wireless Outdoor Camera—which will enable faster motion alerts, faster video startup for live streaming and recording, and better video quality—as well as for our Smart Lock. Be sure to update your Base Station software as soon as the gear icon appears on your Keypad, so that you can take advantage of the upcoming improvements to your Wireless Outdoor Camera and Smart Lock. No additional action will be needed beyond updating your Base Station software.
How do I know when to update?
System updates to the Base Station and Keypad do not update automatically since the system will be offline for 8 – 12 minutes while they update. You must initiate these updates when you see the gear symbol on your Keypad or receive a notification in the app.
Please note: You must be on WiFi to receive updates for your Base and Keypad. If you have just installed your system and connected to WiFi for the first time, your system could require up to an hour to download and apply all necessary updates.
How to Update
You can always check for System Updates by going to your Keypad menu, selecting System Settings, then Check for Updates. When you have updates waiting to be installed, you’ll see a gear icon on your KeyPad’s screen.
When you see the gear icon on your KeyPad:
- Bring your Keypad to your Base Station.
- Push the left side of the Keypad screen where the gear icon is located to prompt the Install menu.
- Select Install Update by pushing on the right side of the Keypad screen.
- Allow the system to install and reboot, which will take about 10 minutes.
- While updating, the Base Station light will be amber and the Keypad screen will show the percentage of the update that has downloaded.
Tip: If your keypad is not working after the software update, this may be because your keypad is low on batteries. Please take out all 4 batteries from the keypad, wait 3 minutes, and then install new batteries. Then, update the software again.
Our cameras and video doorbells update automatically—you don't need to do anything if you have the latest Base Station software! If an event occurs during the time that an update is being installed on the device, the update will pause during the event so you're never without protection.
