Unwanted Notifications
Overall, I am pretty pleased with the new outdoor camera I installed in our backyard. However, I am only concerned about activity while our system is set to "Home" or "Away". I don't need a notification every time my kids pass through the yard or I take out the recycling. Unless I am missing something, however, it appears as if the only options are for notifications to be always on or always off.
Is there a way to only receive notifications while the system is armed? Thank you.

Hi all,
A solution for this issue is already in development, in the form of allowing the Outdoor Camera to activate based on the system's armed state - in the same way that the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera already does. Please head over to this thread to show our devs your support, and follow for future updates.
In the meantime, you can already use the Snooze Notifications feature for each camera, when you know you'll be spending a while out in your yard. You can find instructions for that on our Help Center.

Hi nmlund,
Yes, right now the Outdoor Camera is set up to be active at all times. I've already brought the suggestion to our devs, that the Outdoor Cam should be responding to the armed state of the system. But I'll add your name to the list of those asking for it.

If there could be a βPause for __ hoursβoption then I wouldnβt have to remember to turn notifications back on.

I would like to disable notifications for all cameras (including cameras on doorbells) whenever the system is set to Home or Off (especially when off). Is this possible and if so, how do I configure this in the app?

Add me to the list. Otherwise my current workaround is to turn off notifications at the app level when alarm is off and back on for home/away. I don't know why the outdoors cameras can't have the same off/home/away options as the new smart alarm indoor camera. I'm only a few days in and this is a big deal and I'm seriously considering sending it all back. I know there are other alarm providers that provide this flexibility.

Hello Emily,
If the developers are working on this, it would be ideal to have the customers be able to manually set the camera notification times for each camera, besides being based on Home or Away. Sometimes, there are triggers, like someone going to work early in the morning, that a customer would like to exclude.
Thank you.

Add me to the list. We play outdoors a lot during the day, and can get up to 20-30 notifications during the course of the day. We are notified every time, and it has gotten so annoying that we have come to just ignore all notifications from Simplisafe. Which defeats the purpose of having a system to begin with.
It would be nice to have the option to turn off notifications instead of just snooze. It doesn't have to stop recording if it sees anything necessarily, but the constant notifications is not necessary. Having notifications only when the system is "armed" would be nice.

Update
It appears that there may be some censoring in effect here. I made 7 comments in this 'thread' about giving customers control of camera notifications. 6 of my recent stronger suggestions are buried and inaccessible, leaving the most benign one from months ago as the only one visible. I suspect that has also happened to others in this thread, obviating the benefit of a typical forum.

Agreed. Notifications are essentially useless, especially as there is only a total of one notification ever displayed. You can't tell that something new has happened, so for all practical purposes, they're ignored. It's discouraging to see this has been complained about for several years without the issue being corrected.

Add me to the list too! This is a very frustrating situation. Off should mean off. No notifications.

Add me to this list also. Is there any movement on this suggestion? The original post was in 2021 π£
