Voice prompts / announcements are cut off / incomplete

My base station does not always announce the complete voice prompts when arming home and when announcing the various sensor names in test mode.  For example, I'll press "Home" on the keypad, and the base station will say something like "Sim..." or "Simplisafe" or even just "Sss" instead of the full announcement which is "Simplisafe On, Home."  When in test mode, it'll say something like "Master..." instead of "Master Bedroom, Motion Sensor."  The completeness of the announcements vary.  Strange thing is when I arm using the app, so far the announcements have been complete.  I have the latest firmware updated one week ago.

Anyone else having the same issue?

This issue has been resolved as of Base Station firmware 2.14. If you are experiencing this issue, please update your Base Station to the latest version.

Hi @ssgfrankadams,

Our team is hard at work on a solution for this. In the meantime, have you attempted a Base Station reset? Taking the following steps has helped other users retrieve voice prompts:

  1. Remove the power plug from the Base Station, which will reveal the security screw.
  2. Unscrew the security screw using a Philips head screwdriver.
  3. Twist the entire bottom panel counter-clockwise, and pull away to open the battery compartment.
  4. Take out one battery. This will fully power down the Base Station.
  5. Wait 3 minutes with the Base Station fully powered down.
  6. Reinsert the battery and reassemble the Base Station.

Hi @jaymcgee66,

Thank you for reporting this! Our team is currently working on a fix. In the meantime, we recommend performing a Base Station reset by taking the steps below:

Same issue, just started yesterday.

I've experienced this same issue multiple times.  The hard reset (unplugging and removing the battery for three minutes) seems to resolve it temporarily, but then the problem re-occurs.

My guess is that something in the software gets out of sync over time (e.g. two processes running at a slightly different frequency).  So the hard reset gets everything re-synced, but if it drifts over time the problem will always reoccur.

It would be nice if I could trigger a full reset via the app or website so that I didn't have to take the base station apart, but I don't see that option.  Maybe SimpliSafe can add that option while they investigate the real root cause?

@AdamCooperAZ we do know the root cause in the firmware. A fix is included in a future firmware update, and we'll keep you in the loop when that starts rolling out!

Resetting the base station is only a temporary fix. Issue keeps coming back.

Same issue here. When will we get a permanent fix for this it has been 6 months since reported… @emily_s

I have the same issue. I just moved and it had been happening to my old system. I left that one behind, installed a new system, and all seemed to be working fine. After about a month this system also stopped giving full announcements. It still works, just not the audio part.

@Anne Our engineers have isolated the cause of this issue and are working on a fix. In the meantime, I would try this Base Station reset which has helped other users retrieve their full voice prompts:

Once the Base Station has fully booted up, try arming and disarming your system again through the Keypad. The voice prompts should be restored!

I have the same issue. The voice prompts stop in the middle. I do hear the entry charms.

@terrykobb It sounds like you're experiencing this known issue, so I've moved your reply into this thread. Our engineers have found the root cause of this problem and a solution will come in a future firmware update. In the meantime, users have found success retrieving their voice prompts by doing the following Base Station reset:

I’m having the same issue so I tried the “fix” and it worked.  The sentences are complete now, however, I had a lot of windows open and I wasn’t getting any warning message when I armed it with “Home” until I closed and re-opened those windows. Hope the fix sticks😊

Yes, I’m having the same issue and it cuts off at sim.. it started in June 2023, I see there is a possible fix. You know davey-d, sometime issues like this make my head hurt.

I just noticed this issue a few days ago and found this post. The six step suggested fix by davey_d worked for me.

It’s happening again on remote or keypad. Sporadic partial or none voice response when arming or disarming.

Hi @zeustech,

Your original post is similar to this thread, so I've merged it here. If the Base Station's voice prompts begin to get cut off again, we recommend preforming the following Base Station reset again:

Our engineers are working on implementing a fix to this issue in an upcoming firmware update.

I just ran into the same issue with the truncated or non-existent voice prompts.  It started happening after I had a day when I unpugged the base station a couple times and when the I also lost my internet connection a couple times.

Following the above steps resolved it.

What's the point of this "fix" if its just temporary?  What I want to know is whether the security is actually enabled when I try to turn it on with incomplete voice confirmation.

@mjj65 The Base Station reset is a way to help retrieve full voice prompts until a permanent solution is rolled out via a firmware update. However, even if the voice prompts are cut off, your system will still be properly armed and enabled.

My alarm system is less than one year old. The voice on the Base Station continues to cut off. I have closely followed the instructions (to try to get it to work) numerous times and it is still not working. Very frustrating that no one can help resolve this.

@ciaomarino2 and @rlevey2015 A firmware update with a fix for this issue should be coming soon. Keep an eye out on your Keypad for a notification that the update is available.

Sometimes disconnecting the power and pulling the battery for a minute, causing a system reboot, will temporarily resolve this issue.  I think, though, it's not causing any malfunction with the rest of the system, so it is technically a minor issue.
