Outdoor Camera Unable to Reconnect, Flashing Blue

Hi folks,

There is a known issue where some Outdoor Cameras may become unresponsive after reconnecting or charging/swapping batteries. You may see the LED flashing blue - indicating that the unit is actively attempting to send data - but it isn't able to send recordings or allow livestreams.

Firmware Update 1.18 contains a partial fix for this issue, and should now be rolled out to most users. You can check your camera’s version in the SimpliSafe® app:

  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is ALREADY on firmware 1.18

You may still need to perform a reset to restore functionality:

  1. Remove the Camera from your system in the SimpliSafe® app:
  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select X Remove Camera

  1. Reset the Camera itself:
  1. Press and hold the Pairing Button on the back of the camera
  2. Continue holding until the camera chimes (about 30 seconds)

You may see the LED indicator blinking white, indicating that it’s ready to set up.

  1. Return to the SimpliSafe® app to reinstall the camera:
  1. Tap the three-bar ☰ Menu icon on the top left
  2. Select Add Device or Camera
  3. Tap Let’s Go
  4. Scroll down and select Wireless Outdoor Cam
  5. Follow the instructions on the SimpliSafe® app for setup

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is NOT on firmware 1.18

We will need to perform further troubleshooting, including possibly replacing your camera. Please contact our Support team and we’ll take care of you.

@jkwachs Our engineers are still working on a solution to this issue. In the meantime, I would reach out to our Support team to replace those cameras.

Having this same issue. Got a new wifi network and camera won’t reconnect, only flashes blue even after multiple hard resets and power cycling the entire system.

We’ve had our outdoor camera for about a year and it only worked for a few months before crapping out. I recharged the battery and then could never get the camera to sync with my system again. I tried deleting the camera but the could never get it added again. The blue light flashes continuously and it never connects to the base. Hard reset doesn’t work, the pairing button does nothing.

Same, flashes blue after i changed the battery.  It wouldn't detect the cameras new battery charge so i disconnected and tried to setup again.  Only flashes blue and won't reset.

@Chambersth when you hold the pairing button on the back for 30 seconds, does anything happen at all?

The next step for you might be a replacement cam. Our Support team can help.

Same thing. For a second camera now. Got the first resolved about a month ago but can’t get this one to reset. Just blue flashing light consistently. Really wish I’d gone with another brand - so many cheaper options that provide great free options, I just assumed SimpliSafe would be more reliable based on brand reputation and price. Should’ve gone with eufy. Their stuff has all been excellent for me at a better price, with no monthly fees.

Same problem. A little technical info.Imo

Camera is partially booting, recieving DHCP address and proceeds to broadcast/acquire ransom NTP servers ( I'm assuming for time sync)..Camera never tries to connect to *.amazonaws.com servers (your live stream servers),so it appears cameras are locking up in bootstrap, possibly when Cameras lose power (battery dies) and does not recovered correctly. This is now my second camera observing this problem.  Both less than a year old with firmware updated during setup on the latest failure in the last 5 months. IMO there doesn't seem to be a firmware update feature built into the app. There should also be a remote reboot feature on the camera as most of these outdoor cams are mounted in places where they are not easily accessible.

Hi there. I am having this issue as well. Have tried all of the troubleshooting steps and even purchased entirely new batteries thinking that was the issue and still i just have a constantly blinking blue light even after removing the cameras from my system.

@mashamurphy What firmware version was your Outdoor Camera on before is started to blink blue? It if was on firmware 1.15.6, resetting the camera should resolve this issue. Press and hold the pairing button on the back of the camera for 30 seconds. When you release, the camera should reboot, and you'll be able to set it up again through the SimpliSafe app.

If your camera was not on 1.15.6, or the reset doesn't help, I would reach out to our Support team for a replacement so we can get your camera back online ASAP.

I bought my system in July 2023 and two of my three outdoor cameras has started having this issue.  I tried the reboot several times, but the light still flashes and my batteries drain in less than 8 hours (with no movement).  This is ridiculous for a security camera.  Update: Support Team was very helpful.  Unfortunately, nothing worked, so they are sending replacement cameras.

Hi @sumax7 ,

Sounds like you're experiencing this issue, which our engineering team is currently working to resolve. We're getting close to a solution, but yes, it sounds like replacement units would be the next step for you. Keep us updated in that other thread if you keep experiencing issues!

I too am having difficulty pairing my outdoor wireless camera after replacing the battery with a fully charged one. The camera will not reset after pressing the pairing button for 30 seconds.

@dlegunnip Our engineers are working on a resolution to this issue, but a replacement camera would help you to get your system back online ASAP. I see that you've already connected with our Support team and they are sending a new camera your way.

Hi, I’ve the same problem with one of my outdoor cams, problem cropped up about a month ago but I’m just getting to it now.

Is there a solution yet or am I going to have to replace this camera?

Hi @Goons ,

Try the reset instructions that I mention above, if you haven't already. That should at least be able to restore functionality for your cam temporarily. But if not, then yes, the next step would be a replacement.

My outdoor camera is also flashing blue constantly.  It flashed bright white once after 5+ minutes ,and then returned to flashing blue.  I have removed the camera from my system, tried to perform a hard reset (the camera did not reboot), removed and replaced the battery.  I cannot re-add the camera.  Please advise as soon as possible. TY.

@rickwitt I would first try performing a hard reset on your camera by taking the following steps:

  1. On the SimpliSafe app, navigate to My System > Camera Settings > [Your Camera]
  2. Scroll to the bottom and select Remove Camera
  3. On your Outdoor Camera, look for the pairing button on the back of the device. Press and hold the button for 30 seconds.
  4. When you release, the camera should reboot, and you'll be able to set it up again through the SimpliSafe app.

If a reset does not get your camera back online, the next step would be a replacement. Our Support team can help you with that.

Seems like this is common, my 4 cameras are doing the same thing, do we have an expected completion date for this solution?

@tlevitt We don't have an exact date on when the solution will be rolled out. I do see that you reached out to our Support team and they processed a replacement for you, which is what I would've recommended.

I had this problem when I originally bought my system in November of 2021. I was on the phone with tech support literally for hours with no resolution. No replacement was offered. The. Smear has been sitting in a box for 2 years. I just tried reconnecting it after all this time, and it still is flashing blue. Pressing the pairing button for 30 seconds does NOTHING! I see others have received replacements. How can I get one?

@benlagrange A hard reset may help to recover your Outdoor Cameras. You can do this by taking the following steps:

If these steps do not help, a replacement would be our next step. Our Support team can help you with that.
