Multi-User Accounts

Is there any way to have multiple log-ins to the same account? If not, is there a way to send suggestions to SimpliSafe engineers?

Here's another reason for this request...my mother-in-law lives with us. She forgets my password...constantly. I have had to write it down for her. She lost that password. This request is easy to implement. You have a master account and sub accounts. Let's get this done, please.

Would it be possible to get an ETA for this feature, if it is in active development resource requirements and expected delivery time-scales must have been defined? (The estimate doesn't have to be exact, I understand roadmaps can change, year and quarter will do even if it is when a beta is expected.) Thank you.

I don't think that you'll get what you're looking for Chris.  People have been asking for basically the same thing for years with no concrete answer

Cheers

I may not, but I will give them a chance before making a decision and why I’ve been specific in the ask.

Good ask, roadmapped features are no longer purely ideas, they are now on a release timeline because they’re well past the “in consideration” phase which is where all of this is worked out logistically. Unfortunately, the reps on this board/sub, keep saying roadmapped because they have no idea and that’s just what the Dev team is telling them. The Dev team doesn’t care, so they say it’s roadmapped, because that prevents any internal customer advocates from breathing down their necks. Unfortunately, they’ve used this same response for years now so it’s kind of “crying wolf” with that answer. SS will respond to this sub in about 2-3 months, when your explicit and detailed ask is buried 50 comments deep, and they can answer a noob asking “hey, what’s the deal with this feature?”….”hi noob, it’s roadmapped” 😂

Yeah, I'm not completely sure what is going on over at SimpliSafe, but the one thing that is clear is that they simply do not care what their customers want on the software side of things.  They do not read this forum regularly, despite putting it forward as their official support forum.  They do not have people responding here who have any political power within their organization or are capable of getting anything done.  They routinely make "commitments" to do things here that they obviously never intend to do (this feature, which is a kindergarten level security feature for a "security company", has been frequently requested for years, and they keep claiming it is "on the roadmap").

As a senior executive in the tech industry, I regularly use them as an example of how not to run a customer success organization - they do pretty much everything wrong that you could possibly do wrong.  I will certainly never buy another product from them.

Need to EXPEDITE modification to allow multiple users.  My wife and I both need to be able to access the account.

I would rather have a discussion with the product manager than the CEO. If anyone from the product management team would like to discuss the need for the request or explain the obstacles in fulfilling it, I'd be more than happy to engage.

@patrickflynn Looking at the history of this thread and the complete non-response from SimpliSafe, it's pretty clear to me that the only way to get this functionality is to switch to a different provider.

Just installed SimpliSafe.  I am stunned that this functionality doesn’t exist.  I’ve had it for a decade with Alarm.com and my family depends on it.

I am considering returning my whole SimpliSafe set up and going back to my antique system. We need this so that we can disarm from the street, or arm the garage after we drive away. Nobody likes hitting the keypad and then diving into the car in a hurry.

likewise the ability to identify who armed/disarmed, etc. is pretty darn important. Also isolating the rest of my family from the ability to mess with the configuration is pretty important.

Move it to the top of your priority list!

Honestly I'd just return the SimpliSafe. It's been literal years; this feature is not in development.

2 Messages

Just return it. They're never going to implement this important feature. They just increase subscription prices while ignoring actual security.

3 Messages

@noah if i were you id return if you have the chance to do that and get a different system

@SimpliCraig - Yes, I agree.

@noah Do yourself a favor and return it. Look at this forum - customers very loudly demand it.. yet crickets from SimpliSafe

Dont expect this to happen, I am currently considering moving to ADT.

Return it! Not worth waiting for a feature that is literally the foundation of modern security.

It's a bad security practice for me to share my master password with my wife an kids, but that's what we have to do. They need to be able to arm and disarm the system too.

I would much rather give them each their own user account, so I could limit the kids from making configuration changes.

Dear Davey,

As a Salesforce administrator overseeing an application with over 600 users, I have a some understanding of the complexities involved in app-based security. My recent experiences with SimpliSafe have brought to light some areas where improvements are critically needed, particularly in user accessibility and security.

Challenges with Single-User Logins and Biometric Features: The current single-user login system in SimpliSafe limits its functionality, especially regarding biometric authentication. This limitation can be frustrating and stressful for users, especially in urgent situations where quick and easy access is crucial. I'd like to setup facial recognition but cannot when considering another user needs my account. The reminder in app to set this up is a reminder of this security flaw now.

Miscommunication and Training for Sales Staff: I was informed by the sales team that my spouse would have individual app access. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a shared login scenario, which is not ideal from a security perspective. To prevent future miscommunication, immediate and comprehensive training for the sales team is necessary.

Proposing a Collaborative Approach for Improvement: I am keen to work with SimpliSafe in addressing these issues. Seeing significant progress in these areas, I am prepared to share a positive narrative with my audience about SimpliSafe's commitment to enhancing security and user experience. In the spirit of collaboration, I would also appreciate insights into which development sprint is addressing this issue and how the engineering teams are tackling the challenge. A lack of transparency will result in a more negative message and as well as telling my followers not to purchase from SimpliSafe.

Suggested Actions:

  1. Immediate Training for Sales Staff: To ensure accurate information is relayed to customers.
  2. Development of Multi-User Support and Biometric Authentication: This is crucial for providing individualized and secure access. Integration with an authenticator app, like Okta, could be a beneficial interim solution.
  3. Clear Communication: Updating the website and communication channels to accurately reflect the current capabilities and forthcoming improvements.

Legal and Ethical Considerations: While I understand the limitations outlined in the indemnity clause, prioritizing user security and privacy is essential. Addressing these security features proactively can prevent potential risks and enhance user trust.

Conclusion and Forward Path
: In the next 30 days, I will be sharing my experiences with SimpliSafe online. The nature of this message will reflect the steps taken towards these improvements. I chose SimpliSafe for its promise of a secure, stress-free experience and am hopeful that these issues will be addressed promptly, allowing me to share a story of positive change and responsive customer service.

Warm regards, @MockDux on TikTok

P.S.: A small yet significant suggestion – consider not defaulting community usernames to app usernames, as this practice can also be a security concern.

At what point can this turn into a class-action issue?

For anyone else (like me) that missed it, @davey_d's latest reply was from approximately December 18th, 2023 (as @dlpsr mentioned a few posts up), a ways down page 1, and he says THIS spring (2024) is the scheduled release of this feature!!!! We'll see, but I'm cautiously optimistic!

I sure hope we'll be able to share access with users that already have logins to their own systems.

I also sure hope we can set permission levels, from "owner" with complete access (same as initial account), down to more fine-grained settings. But at this point, I'd even be happy with multiple owner accounts to get us started, with more functionality coming over the coming months (not YEARS).

Hi all,

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and adding your voice to this thread. We know that Multi-User Login is a very important feature that many of us are excited to see added to SimpliSafe®.

I am happy to report that development for this feature is nearing completion, and we’re looking to launch this spring!

In the meantime, while we’re waiting for this feature to launch, you’ll still have to log into the SimpliSafe® app on multiple devices using the same email address and password. But you can already set up confirmation to be sent to multiple phone numbers separately. Read our guide on the Help Center here for more info.

As I replied to his original comment, I am concerned that, as far as I know, they haven't solicited ANY feedback from customers / end users about the kind of functionality we want when "multiple accounts" are implemented. I strongly suspect we're going to get something better than what we have today ("hey, we added the option for one more account!") but nowhere near what most could've been done ("you can add many new accounts, we updated MFA to support an app instead of just text, we added role based access, etc.") for us.

definitely need ability to have a "Parent" control account and multiple "Child" logins for other users that have access to a location.

This is a needed feature and Simplisafe’s behind in offering it. The community has been asking for this feature since day one, instead of prioritizing it they thus far have simply offered excuses and now, oh boy, it’s in development. This feature is not hard, so I question the development team’s process and priorities. Stop, listen, and get it done.

A few posts up they say they ARE working on it now and it will be released this spring (so shortly). Yes it’s LONG overdue, but they are actively working on it to have it ready shortly. Not sure at this point how much faster they can make it happen.

@vtach3743

To be fair we've heard "coming soon" before and either never got the thing (apple homekit was announced 5 years ago and I still don't think there's been an official, "this isn't happening" support article created) or we got the thing later than expected. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll see multi-user accounts this Spring but that's as far as I'm willing to go.

That said, they haven't announced what "multi-user accounts" actually means and SimpliSafe's track record for releasing stuff that's fully functional out of the gate isn't great. I am very VERY worried that we haven't seen a good preview of what they're working on or any word from anyone that's testing it at all.

I agree, it's starting to feel like that post was a "let's not lose any customers and keep them on the string" rather than a real, actual feature.

Too late for that.  According to statistics, Simplisafe is in 6th place based on market share statistics. Not my numbers... Google it.

@richspasc we won't mark a request as In Development unless we're sure it's happening. This particular request definitely is! I can't promise a specific timeline, but it's getting closer. We'll keep you updated in this thread when we have more info.

@davey_d look, I get it. I am a Vice President of Product Management in my day job. I know the drill. I don't know how long your sprints are, I have no idea what this was T-shirt sized at originally or how many story points this takes up, but look at the history of this thread, and the number of users asking for it, every day that you don't have this feature is alienating these customers. You are better off giving customers an estimated timeline (next month, 3 months, 6 months, 2025, after 2025) than to string them along hoping to see the announcement soon. I personally have a replacement alarm system on the list of projects for my home later this year, simply because this feature does not exist. It's not a threat; it's the reality of the situation. What new features has SimpliSafe delivered in the past 6 months? Past year? Which customer requests were satisfied? Honestly, I don't know the answer to those questions, and that's a problem. If the company that I chose as my provider isn't making continual improvements to their service offering, not simply providing new products for me to buy, I search for other providers.

Sounds like it’s close. I’m sure you’ve thought of this use case, put having permissions tier also at the location level, as I use SS for both my home and business. I don’t need the kids messing around with the business, and vice versa employees with access to the house.

The fact that this is still in development after all these years is insane.

Agreed.

Years and years later….this ain’t rocket science but SimpliSafe went pure profit margin so their dev team is prob small and budget is tight because they’re competing on pricing which is slowly creeping up to ADT and other common consumer security offerings. Ring is blowing them out of the water.

Seriously this is a must, please start rolling it!

Good luck everyone, I'm unfollowing this post because the only thing it's been good for is to get email when other people have the same issue.  It's clear that nothing is going to be done at SimpliSafe, so I choose to SimplifyLife and stop getting unnecessary messages about features that aren't going to happen.

@cpopolo lol. Yeah, empty promises from company. They probably got rid of in house programming staff and out sourced it to a third world country, and realizing it takes more than twice as long to get anything done.
