Question on Permit and 'Securitas' dispatch

Hi,

I recently installed the Simplisafe system and in the Account section under "Monitoring" -> "Alarm Permit Requirements" I get the message I copied below.

My questions:
a) What does this private guard service 'Securitas' do?
b) It says opt-in is optional. If I do *NOT* opt in, will the police be called in case of an alarm?
c) If I do opt in to this, what will happen in case of an alarm? Will both Securitas AND the police be called?

Thanks!

This is the message I get in my Account under "Monitoring" -> "Alarm Permit Requirements" -> "Click here to see what permitting information we may have on file for your municipality":
"
Burglar Alarm Monitoring Permit Information!

Important Information: SimpliSafe partners with a private guard service, Securitas, to provide private guard dispatch in your municipality. Securitas is optional and not required at this time. Securitas charges $75.00 per dispatch which would be billed through your SimpliSafe account. For more information about Securitas, or to opt into the service, please email permits@simplisafe.com.

Hi @simpli82465 ,

Thanks for checking in. I would really recommend reaching out to our dedicated Permits team directly, if you haven't already. They're the experts in this particular area!

But it sounds like your Protected Location is in one of the areas where guard service is available, but not required. When active, Guard Service takes the place of your local police during an emergency dispatch call; when there's an alarm event, we'll call the Guard Service, and they'll send an agent to your home to look for signs of forced entry, and call the actual police if necessary.

Guard Service is useful in areas where there are steep fines for false alarms, or in places where authorities may refuse to dispatch at all for alarm system calls. If you're in one of those latter areas, we would let you know in that same Permitting Info box.

If I opt out of this service will Simlpisafe call me still call when my alarm goes off?

Thats a good question…..
I have a concern that if I op out and they can’t reach me they will not  dispatch the local police or they call me and I’m not at the location where the alarm is, I can not confirm there is a problem there so I still need local police dispatch.

This system does not make any sense to me, their statement about trying to protect you from getting charged for false alarms is BS. They are charging you for both….
This is a money grab… This is not a Security System.. SimpliSafe has lost the reason for installing it.

If you remove Securitas guard service, SimpliSafe® will not be able to request police dispatch to your monitored location unless you or an individual at the location reports seeing a crime-in-progress to the SimpliSafe® Monitoring Center.

I’m paying for a security system to prevent and stop burglary using the local police department, not going to pay additional $75 to have someone show up 30 minutes later and tell me we did or did not have external signs of entry.
I want the local police department called at the time of the alarm. If they want to charge me, that’s between them and myself. Has nothing to do with SimpliSafe or Securitas guard service.
I want it confirmed in writing that local police will be called at the time of the alarm even if no one on the phone list can be reached. That person could be laying on the floor unconscious…..
