cost of monitoring

I have simplisafe installed in 3 homes and I pay 3 different rates for monthly monitoring
26.49
24.99
14.99

The website states that the cost is 15 cents a day.

Am I paying too much for 2 of my 3 homes?

The "base" cost for monitoring is 14.99, which works out to  .50 a day.  So .15 is obviously incorrect, or more likely, is the cost for the CAMERA monthly fee of $5.

$24.99 is the cost for the "interactive" plan (which includes up to 10 free camera fees), which gives you much more control over your system.  $26.49 is the interactive plan plus tax, because your state whined to SS that you were cheating them out of their sales tax and the Supreme Court judged that states can collect sales taxes from companies which are not in that state.

So no, you are not paying "too much" for any of your homes.  You may be paying more than you want, but your only option is to reduce your service.

Actually, there has always been (well, at least way before the recent rulings) an obligation to pay sales tax on out of state purchases. Just that it was the buyer's responsibility to remit the tax to their state. So, indeed most WERE cheating their state out of taxes due. The recent rulings only require the states to collect and remit on your behalf what was due anyway. When you had to physically travel to make that happen it probably wasn't that a really huge deal. Sure, it happened, but not like now how easy to buy out of state from your easy chair with the click of a button. It is BIG money.

Those are accurate rates for monitoring. The question I have is, are all of the homes in the same state? Because you should not be paying tax on one plan but not the others if so.

As Seven stated, Standard Monitoring is $14.99 w/o tax. So, if you do not need Interactive Monitoring (which is $24.99 w/o tax), you can reduce the other homes to that, Standard Plan.

Edit: The Website homepage states: 50 cents a day - which is correct for Standard Monitoring. I am uncertain where you saw 15 cents a day, Ramchandani1975.

FWIW, there is tax on both of my monitoring plans (in the same state).

That would be in line with my post. I would assume anyone would be charged/taxed equally for separate plans in the same state. But if the one home was in another, that could explain the tax (or difference in price) on that particular plan.

We gave the answer and explanation of the cost of monitoring to the OP and that it was accurate, but I cannot explain why only one has taxes applied without further information. It would apply to all.

^ I was thinking the same thing, one home must be in a different state, where taxes are applied.
