"Wireless Interference Detected" voice prompt from SS system.

For the last couple of weeks my SimpliSafe system has started alerting me via the voice system stating "wireless interference detected". I've had the system for a few months and I've never experienced this issue before. I contacted support via the technical support hotline and I was told to move my base station closer to my wifi router (AT&T Internet provider). The base station is already in the same room as the router (maybe 3-4 feet in distance between the two) so the tech support person said it should be near a window (it's about 2 feet from the window). When I asked if there is a way to assess what might be causing the interference I was told he would need to talk to a supervisor and put me on hold. After waiting nearly 10 minutes on hold I hung up. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's quite annoying and unnerving hearing a loud voice at 4AM saying "Wireless interference detected". We have not added any new wireless devices in our household and I had no problems in the first few months of having the system. Why would this start happening now? Any suggestions?

The feature was recently activated as part of the latest Firmware Update. Wireless interference isn't necessarily going to stop your system from working altogether, but it can reduce the range and can impact performance.

One key thing is that it's looking for interference in the local wireless. So while making sure that your WiFi router, or any other advanced WiFi-based device is kept away might help, you might also want to look for simpler devices that use the same frequency as the Base Station and sensors. That could be devices that you wouldn't immediately think would be a problem - like wireless weather stations, remote controlled garage door openers, or walkie-talkies from nearby construction.

Hopefully we can identify whatever is causing that interference! For more info on troubleshooting this issue, click here.

The error appears to be popping up after the most recent firmware update. There are some threads I quickly found mentioning the issue, but I did not go into a more thorough search. Unfortunately, I did not see a solution in any of the posts. I have included the links below. Perhaps one will spark an idea of what might be the culprit in your case.

By the way, have you applied the latest update (from around 10/19/18)?

The voice prompt "wireless interference detected" refers to a wireless signal in your home that is interfering with a sensor(s) and your Base Station.

Wireless interference can come from, wireless routers, kitchen appliances, smart TVs, radios, cell phones. In your post, you mention that your router is about 3-4 feet away from your Base Station. We recommend moving your Base Station further away from your router and let us know if you continue to hear this voice prompt.

Since the last firmware update I have been having the same issue. It is intermittent. Sometimes it happens multiple times a day, other days no issues at all. Our system worked fine up until the last firmware update. No other changes were made to the system. The router is about 10 feet away in another room.

This week I installed a brand new system. And I love it.  But I too am getting Wireless Interference Detected every once in a while. It's random. And I went through and removed every device I had except for my fob. And I still got it. Then - suddenly - it went away for a few days. It came back last night. Here is the thing. All of my devices work. I can see immediately on my app when I arm or disarm. I turned OFF my WiFi and the cellular connection worked too. So if we can't get info on what device is having the interference and I'm not having any connectivity issues, then this alert is a useless alert that only causes frustration and annoyance.  It needs to go away in the next version of the firmware OR it needs to provide better information so people aren't being told to play musical chairs with their devices. Just because you CAN check for wireless interference doesn't mean you have to. And without having a way to do something about it, you are better off not having it. All it will do is make people stop using the system. So I would advise either fixing it so that it's helpful or killing it. Right now it doesn't do anything remotely helpful.

The message specifically means that the Base Station itself is detecting wireless interference. That is, that it's sensing another device is transmitting at a frequency that it's using right now. We're looking for simpler devices, so not WiFi or cell devices. As I said above, more like remote controlled garage door openers, some baby monitors, wireless weather stations, etc.

If you have trouble, give our team a call at 1-888-957-4675 and we might be able to help you troubleshoot.

I have to disagree with you about the simpler devices like cell phones not being a cause for this alert.  I can literally hold my cell phone next to the base station and make it do the "Wireless Interference Detected" message.  I can also reproduce the alert with my Echo Dot or Google Home.

Per what others are saying, the next firmware update should either remove this horribly annoying "feature", or make it something that we can mute/disable in our settings.

As long as it doesn't cause an issue connecting to your monitoring system, why do we need to know about this?  I am assuming most wireless devices experience wireless interference from time to time and I certainly don't need to know about it.

UPDATE AS OF 1/2 HOUR AGO:  I called tech support and they were able to disable this message from my system.  Not sure you need something that can just be turned off.

Thanks,
Dennis

I am experiencing the same issue. But right now, my biggest issue is that I spend 3 phone calls and nearly 2-1/2 hours on hold and still have not gotten a resolution. I finally had to take out the power cord and remove the back up batteries. Leaving my home completely unprotected, just so I can sleep..."Wireless Interference Detected" will haunt my nightmares.

Day three is a charm...I took the day off work so I can sit on hold and pray to all that is good that I get some help...To Be Cont...

Can Be Disabled

I called Simply Safe about this annoying wireless interference message and they were able to get it turned off "with supervisor approval".

I have tried to move the base station everywhere, but wireless signals exist in all rooms.  It was said by some tech's that cell phones, echo dots, or google home would not cause the alert but I can literally make the alert happen by holding these devices next to the base station.

If it becomes a nuisance, I would call and have it disabled as well.

Thanks

You're right, General, that has been mentioned, but it has never been said whether the customer would be notified, and how, and with what degree of information would or could be given them.  I assumed SS would correct a potential jamming on their end (if in fact it was an intruder jamming) but no one ever says anything more about it!

I am not suggesting anyone is trying to jam your security system.  I thought there was a post or article early last year that SS3 had the ability to detect jamming and would use that detection capability to force an alarm condition.  I am probably wrong, since I don't remember what I had for lunch 2 hours ago.  Assuming this is correct, I hope SS support disabling this "feature" doesn't negatively impact it, if it should be generating an alarm condition.

I too was having this issue with the wireless interference every time I turned the system off.  After a week or so moving the base around different places and no luck I decided to reboot the base station to see what would happen.  For the last week after the reboot it has gone away and not resurfaced yet.  I had a wireless telephone and base sitting right beside the SimpliSafe base and had moved that to the second floor but still had the interference. I have since moved it back to its original location and still no wireless interference.

Anyone else having the wireless interference issue may try the base station reboot to see if that could work for you.

I've had my ss3 running for a few weeks now. I was getting an interference message logged on the keypad about twice a week. I called SS and the rep was able to tweak the system remotely to be less sensitive for interference. So far so good. I haven't got the message in 5 days so far.

^  it actually showed a message on the keypad?  I.e., you saw a caution icon at the top of the keypad display and pressing it showed the message?  I think you're the first one to state this, as others were saying it was a base station voice announcement.

Hooked up the system last Thursday and we have been getting the  same "wireless interference detected" warnings mentioned above when I turn off the unit in the morning.  Should I be concerned-does this effect you monitoring my system or is it just overly sensitive.  I have gone thru all the checks mentioned by other posters and do not find anything that could be interfering with our unit. One poster mentions rebooting the base station solving the issue.  How do you beboot it??  I can disconnect it from the electrical outlet but their is still an internal battery I can't get at-or is there an easier way??

Underneath the power supply plug, there is a screw.  I'll bet that if you removed that screw, the bottom could be taken off and batteries revealed.
