What is the "audio enhancer" with part number CM015-02DUS?

Someone recently posted a photo of a small SImpliSafe product box that has "audio enhancer" written on it. I can't find anything on the internet telling me what this is. Can someone from SS shed some light on this mystery?

Hi @worthing,

The Audio Enhancer is part of a test for an upcoming product launch. It goes on the Outdoor Camera to help amplify its speaker.

@worthing Hi and happy New Year to you and your family! Long time no hear.

I have not seen this before but I sure have a strong guess: a speaker that is connected to the SS3 system to relay door chimes on the entry sensors and the doorbell pro. Customers have asked for these two features for years (one customer even used two walkie-talkies) and possibly SS is finally getting to release it. Others, what do you think?

Update: A clue may be in the reported product number, CM015-02DUS. All previous products that started with CM were camera-related, including the latest Smart Alarm camera. An audio enhancer for agents that are interacting with a suspected intruder during an alarm event, especially one that may be off camera? Anyone have other guesses?

One final thought: I thought I would ask Bard, the AI engine over with our frineds at Google. His guesses:

    • SimpliSafe Base Station: The SimpliSafe base station has a built-in speaker that can be used to play sounds, such as entry chimes and voice prompts. The volume of the speaker can be adjusted in the SimpliSafe app.

    • SimpliSafe Camera: The SimpliSafe camera has a built-in microphone that can be used to record audio. The audio quality of the microphone may not be as good as a dedicated audio enhancer, but it may be sufficient for some purposes.

    • Third-party audio enhancer: There are a number of third-party audio enhancers that can be used with SimpliSafe systems. These products can be used to improve the audio quality of recordings from SimpliSafe cameras and other devices.

Yes, my guess, and I looked at the picture of the device the OP posted on the reddit Simplisafe sub.

It appears to be a round ring that goes around the outdoor cameras removable nose and some kind of unknown amplification device that goes over the outdoor cam speaker vent.

If I'm correct, how it works for the person outside speaking in I'm uncertain. I don't know where the microphone is on the outdoor cam exactly, but may also be in that same speaker vent.

For me, when using talk with an outdoor cam, all I have to do is tap the speaker on and off in the app and the volume increases exponentially. Others, it may or may not work for them.

@dlpsr Interesting idea but would not be a priority for me.

Thanks for the reply! I have questions:

1) How does one join these kinds of tests?  I haven't seen an email about any beta tests from SimpliSafe for almost a year.

2) Is this going to be like the door chime where people can request it for free? Or is this going to be a for sale product? If the latter, any idea a) when it will launch and b) how much it will cost?

@worthing Our beta tests will generally have a short list of requirements for eligibility. If our teams are running a test that your are eligible for, you will receive an email about joining.

The Audio Enhancer was only created to be a part of this test. It will not be sold or given out as a standalone accessory.
