resetting pass key

I have an orginal simplisafe. It was given too me by parents who got it from the neighbor. They did not the pass key so have no way to set up the system in my house. How do I reset the pass key so I can set up the simplisafe up and sign up for monitoring service. I did not want to sign up for anything until I was sure it was going to work.
