Red button on top of keypad

What is the red button on top of the keypad?  The install guide doesn't address it. Thanks

Hi @Marvic1,

Yes, the Panic button on top of your SimpliSafe Keypad can be easily disabled either through the menu of the Keypad or through the SimpliSafe app. To disable that using the Keypad, use the following steps:

  1. Press the menu button on your Keypad
  2. Enter your Master PIN
  3. Select Devices
  4. Scroll to and select the Keypad that you would like to disable the Panic Button on
  5. Select Panic Alarm
  6. Set to Disabled

@simplisafe_admin

I came here to find information on the red button, too.  This thread is 2 years old, but our new system purchased Fall 2022 directly from SimpliSafe still has no mention of the red button or its function.

Please describe, in detail, what happens when the red button is pushed. If I need it, I don’t want to be surprised.

Thanks.

Hello @ItsTheSmiths ,

That would be the built-in Panic Button. It functions just like the standalone Panic Button, in that pressing it will generate an immediate alarm (with siren), as well as a call from Monitoring.

You must press the button for 2 seconds to activate - to decrease accidental presses.

We do mention it here in this Help Center video, as part of a full overview of Keypad functions.

Panic button.

Thought so.

I know, I'm Capt. Obvious.  But you would think the picture of the keypad with all the parts identified would also have labeled the Panic Button.

Yep, just figured it out.  I wondered if accidentally pressing it was causing my system to alert the police, but there does not seem to be any log.  Not does anyone try to contact me before the cops show up - I need to call them I guess.

That's a common complaint about SS documentation.  And when you've gotten a new security system, there are no Capt. Obvious questions.  For something like that, you want to make sure that you understand every aspect of it. :)

Has to be held for more than 2 seconds before sending an alert.  Therefore, an accidental push won't do anything.

And in fact there is a log, in the app and via the website.

Is there any way to deactivate this red panic button on top of the keypad?
We do have standalone panic buttons around the house...

@marvic1 Go to the Simplisafe website, log into your dashboard, click on devices, go down the list to your keypad(s), on the right you will see a column named "Panic behavior", use the dropbox to select "disable". Then click save for the change to take effect.  Note you do have to do this for each keypad you have before clicking save.
