Power outage notification

Will my system notify me of a power outage? If so how will it notify me? Will it be saved in my timeline indefinitely? Thanks

Hi kamillarifkin,

Yes, the Base Station will send a signal to the Monitoring Service when power is interrupted, and when the built-in rechargeable batteries take over. You can get a Push Notification for that event through the SimpliSafe app.

But do keep in mind that the signal needs to be sent through either your Base Station's built-in cellular connection, or your home's WiFi.

If WiFi is taken down, the signal can only go through the cell signal. This is why we'd recommend subscribing to Monitoring Service, which is what enables that backup cell connection.

@davey_d Is there a specific way to set this up?  I'm chatting with SimpliSafe support right now and they're telling me that "Normally it doesn't notify when the system loses power."

@jagodar142 I'm afraid you were given inaccurate info. Are you saying that the Power Outage is not coming up for you when your Base Station is unplugged?

additionally, why would it continue to say power outage once the power has been restored?

@lenzingers the system should not be showing a Power Outage warning if the power has been restored.

Mine is still showing a power failure warning a day after power was restored. Power being restored does not show up in the timeline.

@kelly1958 was this after 'refreshing' the Overview page? You can do that by pulling down on the Overview screen. That will request the latest status from the Base Station.

Sometimes if your system is also disconnected from the network (like if the backup cell is not available, or if the Base Station ran out of battery completely), it might not be able to send that "Power Restored" signal to the app. But you can get the latest info from the Base through the refresh as noted above.

I am following all the exact steps listed here but my base station continues to show a power outage, which also appears on the app when I refresh.

I'm having the same exact issue. My base station is clearly plugged in and I also clearly have power, but the app is persistently saying that there is a power outage.

My app had the power outage message for a week after power was restored. Tech support was useless. I think the base notification cache eventually clears after awhile. Poor design. Not happy.

I have had this system hooked up for a day and already have had several issues. Very disappointing, indeed. Tech support basically just said "we don't know, sorry" for ALL of these problems that popped up-

Not receiving push notifications or texts.

Entry sensors going off even if an entry isn't opened.

Consistent power outage message.

All of them are mysterious problems that seemingly don't have an answer. I was on the phone for over an hour to be told I'm basically screwed.

Hi @Jessica ,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having issue with your new system. On your call with our Support team, did they have you take any troubleshooting steps? It would be helpful for me to know which troubleshooting steps you've attempted; just so I don't recommend something you've already tried.

My issue turned out to be due to me having a very poor cellular signal at my location.  Simplisafe uses cellular for notifications, if WiFi isn't available.
When I would lose power, I would lose WiFi also so it couldn't notify me.
To resolve this I installed a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) battery but DID NOT plug Simplisafe into it.  Instead, I plugged in my WiFi router.  Simplisafe is still powered by regular outlet (and has its own battery) so it can keep working and "see" a power outage.  Since the WiFi is now powered by UPS, Simplisafe can use WiFi to notify me of the power outage.

This is working very well now.  Hope this helps.

How do I set up a push or SMS notification of a power outage?  I recently installed your latest gen system.  My old gen 1 system would notify me of an outage & of power restored.
