Keypad Reset/Dead Keypad

Hello,
After spending 35+ minutes on hold the fix was simple. Checked with the app and my keypad was not responding. I went to it and found it dead. Nothing would happen no matter what I pushed. Nothing on the screen. I replaced the batteries, logical enough, still dead! Pulled the batteries, checked them with a meter, all good! Solution, after 35+ on hold, pull all 4 batteries...replace only 3...IMPORTANT! you must wait 3-4 minutes  Replace the last battery and it comes right on. I asked the tech if there was a reset and she said "no"...funny this sure sound like a reset to me. I told her to put it on the website!!!

Good Luck!

I tried everything. Went to YouTube nothing. Changed batteries with more new batteries and nothing. Then I saw this thread and followed “pal2e”s advice and it worked like a charm 😂

thanks man.

Just here to say thank you to @pal2e - it was so frustrating trying to figure out why the batteries being replaced wasn’t fixing the issue! This should definitely be their official instructions, it’s the only thing that worked.

Or just pull all the batteries, press and hold multiple keypad buttons for a minute to discharge the caps and put the batteries back in and it resets.

So glad I found this! Simply add 3 new batteries, wait 5 mins, add the last one in and it works! Thank you!!

Can't believe it worked! I even left the batteries out overnight and nothing when I put in all 4. Put in 3, waited 4 minutes,  put in the 4th and it's back.

So I did the same exact method as you did with taking out the batteries waiting 5 minutes then put three batteries back in and wait it for minutes to put the last battery in, right away the simply safe logo popped up on the screen to go through the opening screen then all the sudden went back to black screen. I checked the batteries and they were all between 1.4 and 1 volt. I believe the simply safe Tower said please wait while keypad sinks or something like that. What does the red button do at the top of the keypad? I'm wondering if I should just get new batteries because this thing has just been sitting on my wall for like a year without using it. I guess technically I really don't have to use the keypad if I have the app right? Because we really use it more for checking to keep my grandparents in the house instead of people coming from outside in. Since I'm staying with them I had the keypad on my wall in the room It was fine until I just try to pair a disconnected camera that disconnected for no reason like a few months ago, I had the time and said let me try to pair the camera again. So either way i took an L because the camera won't pair to base station it is yellow light which means updating then it switched to blinking red light which means can't connect to router which makes no sense because I put the camera on top of the router lol. And in the process I made my keypad go black ughh

Hi @rondaze1 ,

First, the big red button is the Panic Button, which initiates an alarm. I wouldn't recommend pressing it, even if the Keypad is currently disconnected (just in case it actually isn't!).

Yes, it might be time for you to install fresh batteries into your Keypad. It uses AA alkaline batteries, which should should last about 8-12 months.

Technically no, you don't need the Keypad for daily function. But it's very useful to have as backup - for example if the system becomes disconnected from Monitoring and app controls are unavailable.

And as for that camera - I would suggest starting over through a hard reset. Follow the instructions here for that, and head over here for further troubleshooting.

THIS is way to do it!

I tried all kinds of reset instructions, including some listed below, to no avail. Finally I tried the "replace only 3" direction, and it worked a charm!

Mind blown. The battery trick worked.

I can confirm that this worked. My keypad has not been working. I took the batteries out, waited a few minutes and put them back in. I wish there was a reason as to why this happens and for SimpliSafe to figure out a solve as the keypad doesn’t work exactly when you need it to work…
