The way to update is through your Keypad, under Menu > System Settings > Check for Updates. If there is an update available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
But first, the system does need to be connnected to your home's WiFi. To make sure that's set up, go to Menu > System Settings > WiFi.
What @davey_d didn't mention is that SS rolls out base station firmware over a period of many weeks - it's not just available to everyone when it's announced and you can go grab it. Sometimes you can grab it in a week, sometimes it takes six weeks from my personal experience. So don't give up, just keep trying manually and eventually you'll get it. (No I'm not kidding. Yes this is awful and should be fixed.)
When it's ready for you it will also be on your app in the top right corner you will see a little envelope with a red dot on it and then you will know that you have one ready as well, it does take time to roll them out to over 4 million people so it will get there trust me
