Batteries...

I'm asking about the New system as I just upgraded.

What is the battery life of the base stations (power outage)?
Are CR123A and CR17345 the same batteries?
Are all the bottom batteries the same DL2032?
Are the KEY pad and noise makers AA?

Thank you.

I'm not sure if the batteries are the same, but the 123 is what I always buy and they work great.

SS advertises the base station battery as 24 hour backup.  I've never had an outage that lasted more than a few minutes so I can't say for sure.

I honestly wouldn't depend on a full 24-hour battery back up on the base station - To my recollection, no one on the forums has ever posted they lasted that long - more like a median of between 8-12 hours (seems to be different for every user).

I believe CR123A is compatible to CR17345.

Here's a list of the SS3 sensors/component batteries:

CR2032 3V lithium battery
used with:
entry sensor
freeze sensor
panic button
water sensor

CR123A 3V lithium battery
used with:
motion sensor
smoke sensor
glass-break sensor

AA Alkaline batteries (4 each):
used with:
keypad
extra db siren

Keychain Remote: Needs replacement of entire remote from Simplisafe, battery not replaceable, call SS to get replacement.

Thank you for the list of information.

I was having issues with my old system and upgraded to the new system in a rush.  I hated going to work without everything working and the hours at the hospital have been crazy.

Would buying better batteries for the base station be advisable?  The batteries that they include are cheap.  There are better batteries out there.  Not a big deal for me.  I've lived here six years and the power has gone out twice and both times it was out for less than an hour.  Just curious.

Thank you.  I'm just working the job I singed up for.  It's no different than when I was 18 and running into burning buildings for fun when I was on a volunteer fire department.

@usmaak
In the 60 seconds I had the base station in my hand I did not see where you could easily change the batteries.
I think there newer system has only been out for 1 or 2 years.  My old system ran great for 7 years.

It's not "easy" to change the base batteries because 1) you don't have to do it often (they are rechargeable) and 2) the harder it is to remove the batteries, the longer it will take a bad guy to disable the base.

Seven, was it you who tested the base station batteries with another brand of rechargeables? And was it eneloop or something?  If I'm dreaming, disregard this question - thought it was one of our regulars who tested them once...

Nope, it wasn't me.  I'm still running the original batteries.  But if I WERE to update the batteries, they'd be Eneloop, which are the best quality rechargeable batteries I've found.

Note that I did test the no-name rechargeables which advertised milli amp hours much higher than normal, and in every case, they did not give a longer run time than quality batteries with a "normal" MAh rating, and they tended to die quickly to boot.  Not in the SS base, but in more standard uses which are used for a while then recharged.

Ah, maybe that's what I remembered.  Is one of your systems still SS2, and is that base still running on the original batteries?  If so, that would be impressive :)

yes and yes.  It's the charge/discharge/recharge cycle which tends to degrade rechargeable batteries.  So if I very seldom have any power interruptions, there is a lesser chance the batteries will wear out.

Thanks for that, Seven, good to know!
