After 4G module install, can't connect to WiFi

4G installation went OK and tested good. Followed instructions and told system to forget the SSID. Now the system can't find any network. Followed all suggestions, using only 2.4ghz, resetting router. Checked network and performance is good, all other devices connect with no issue. Ideas?

I was able to resolve the issue by calling the Simplisafe. Disconnect the base station from power cable. Remove one battery from base station and keypad. Wait for 3 minutes. With one battery removed, connect the base station to the power cable. Push the reset button on the bottom of base station. Insert the batteries in the base station and keypad. Connect to the wifi.

@nzaer sounds like you performed a Base Station reset, followed by the pairing procedure for the Keypad (that's what the button is for).

If your Keypad was already connected, then just the first bit might do the trick, since it's just like rebooting a computer.

@nzaer Thanks for posting this. This resolved the issue for me.

This was happening for me too. After installing the 4G module, the SS could not find any wireless networks at all. I used the above instructions to get it working again. I didn't do all the steps, though. Here's what I did:

  1. Disconnect the power cable from the base station.
  2. Remove battery cover and remove one battery from base station.
  3. Wait for 3 minutes. This is apparently the way to reset the base station, leave it with no AC or battery power for a few minutes.
  4. With one battery still out and the battery cover still off, connect the base station to the power cable.
  5. Once the system has booted up, the "no wifi" problem should be gone, and you can search/enter wifi on either the base station or the app as intended.
  6. Once it has reconnected, you should be good to go, but you need to reassemble the device, so insert the missing battery, unplug the power cable, screw the battery cover back on, and plug the power cable back in.
  7. It should now work as normal and connect to your wifi.

This sequence worked. Thanks!

@nzaer Worked here, too! I was on hold in the chat service for an hour and a half, but this worked a treat.

Hi richbathke,

How are you attempting to connect WiFi for your system: through the SimpliSafe app, or the Keypad Menu? If one is not working, I would suggest the other.

@davey_d Attempted to connect to WiFi using both the app and keypad.  Could it be the handshake between the SS system and the router where they both need to be re-initialized? Now the app and keypad just search for a network and then times out.

The strangest thing is that it did actually work before. Could the Base Station still be in your router's list of connected devices? If so, removing it might help.

I have this same issue. Was connected to wifi just fine before upgrading to 4G module. Afterwards, the base station continues to search for wifi networks and cannot find any. I've tried connecting via the app but the same issue persists. I'm on firmware version 2.6.4 which seems to be latest. Cellular connection is fine using 4G module.

I have exactly the same issue after installing the new module. It can't find any wifi network. Please help.

Same issue here and same fix.

Worked for me too. I didn't have to wait 3 minutes after battery removal. I just powered the base station with the power cord and checked the WiFi scan before reassembly. The base station found my network in a few seconds. Pressing the reset button on the bottom of the base station is not needed.

This base station reset routine should be part of the 4G module install instructions.

@rhythm1 Agree that it should be part of the install instructions. Had the same problem and would have saved me from re-installing the old module to confirm it could connect to wifi without problems.

Yes these instructions worked but what an ordeal until I found these.

I finally got around to installing my upgrade. Glad I wasn't one of the first or I wouldn't have found out so many other people had the same problem and how to correct it. Too bad Simplisafe couldn't have updated their instructions in all that time, or released an update that fixed it.

Honestly, this is just awful. I've pretty much reached my end with Simplisafe.

We're very sorry to hear that. Did you already try the Base Station Reset in the above post? And was that not successful for you?

The next step would be to send you a whole new Base Station that already has a 4G cell module installed.

Ever since I SimpliSafe sent me the upgraded 4G module, my base station keeps losing wifi, and will not reconnect automatically. Prior to the 4G my Base station would only lose wifi when my router did a update and had to reboot, but it would reconnect after the wifi came back up. Now it will not reconnect, nor can I reconnect with the App (prior to 4G was able to reconnect with the app) now have to go to the keypad and reconnect, which works but whenever my connection goes down once every few weeks for an update on the router, I have to manually reconnect via the keypad.

Do you know if simplisafe has any suggestions to fix this issue, must be something with the 4G?
