Adhesive strips don't work well on vinyl windows

I'm finding that sensors on my home's vinyl windows eventually (way less than a year) lose stickiness and fall off the window. Needless to say, this would trigger a false alarm if SS is set to Home or Away.

I contacted SS to see if they had a solution for this very common problem. They did not (and using screws on my vinyl window frames is NOT an option).

Are there viable options for keeping my SS sensors stuck to the vinyl windows?

@ronaldkays If your windows "sweat" the moisture is going to be a problem for almost any type of "adhesive strip".  Your best bet, in my experience, is to use 3M picture hanging stips.  Yes, way over the top in weight, but boy, do they grip. There is a velcro like side to them that holds like gorilla glue and I have used them successfully on smooth surfaces on several installs (other than my own windows but have used them in crooked room corners) successfully on vinyl windows.

Please post your outcome here if you get a chance.

@captain11 windows dual-pain and well sealed. No moisture. Vinyl exudes chemicals over time that break down the adhesive in the strips SS ships.

Thx for responding. I will try the 3M product and hope for long-term success.

Hi @ronaldkays ,

When the Gen 3 SimpliSafe launched a few years ago, we did roll out with a different brand of adhesive. But due to feedback from customers such as yourself having this same issue, we did switch out our full product line with 3M adhesives last year.

The Captain is on a good track with identifying moisture (or perhaps humidity) being a possible cause for the sensors falling off. I know I've had trouble with 'em here during the New England summer. I do find that the Velcro variety of Command Adhesives will fare a little better - though with a bit of added bulk.

Personally, skip the included adhesive and use "nano tape" in any situation where the adhesive might not stick well.  Nano tape is very sticky, but completely removable with no residue remaining.

I have vinyl windows and my sensors have been on them for 2 years. Here is my suggestion. Clean the spot where the adhesive is going to stick with rubbing alcohol. Clean it very good. Wait for it to dry. When sticking the sensor to the vinyl, press HARD and hold it in place for 30 seconds with as much pressure and you can stand. I have 14 window sensors and have yet to have an issue.
