Unwanted Notifications

Overall, I am pretty pleased with the new outdoor camera I installed in our backyard. However, I am only concerned about activity while our system is set to "Home" or "Away". I don't need a notification every time my kids pass through the yard or I take out the recycling. Unless I am missing something, however, it appears as if the only options are for notifications to be always on or always off.

Is there a way to only receive notifications while the system is armed? Thank you.

Hi all,

A solution for this issue is already in development, in the form of allowing the Outdoor Camera to activate based on the system's armed state - in the same way that the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera already does. Please head over to this thread to show our devs your support, and follow for future updates.

In the meantime, you can already use the Snooze Notifications feature for each camera, when you know you'll be spending a while out in your yard. You can find instructions for that on our Help Center.

Hi nmlund,

Yes, right now the Outdoor Camera is set up to be active at all times. I've already brought the suggestion to our devs, that the Outdoor Cam should be responding to the armed state of the system. But I'll add your name to the list of those asking for it.

I would like this as well. Too many notifications while loading/unloading vehicle, washing car, yard work, etc.

Hello Davey,

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the Development Team one year ago.  With so many folk clamoring for the ability to control the notifications better to help control the remarkable annoyance, one wonders about the prioritization process or the extent of programmng resources to service the important Simplisafe program.  I'm afraid that the valuable comments of customers who have taken their time to inform the company may be squandered.  Thank you once again for your attention to this important issue and any willingness to resubmit the issue with the additional support of the additional comments would be greatly appreciated.

Has there been any movement on this request.  I would like the ability to control these notifications.

Hi @Rockee,

While there is currently no setting to only receive motion notifications when your system is armed, we do have the Snooze Notifications setting. With Snooze Notifications, you can temporarily pause notifications for a set amount of time.

If there could be a “Pause for __ hours”option then I wouldn’t have to remember to turn notifications back on.

@Avalonforsale Totally. Or just the ability to schedule on and off hours.

Add one vote for a "Do Not Disturb" scheduling ability. (see photo)

ONE THAT ALSO ALLOWS FOR MOMENTARY DISABLEMENT. (my Do Not Disturb app does this)

EG: I can open Simplisafe app, and chose a 15, 30, or 60 minute time frame to disable motion sensors.

The Do Not Disturb app I reference, has a NOW feature that will shut off my phone for preset amounts of time and even adds them up if you click multiple times. EG: I click the 15 min 3 times and it shuts my phone off for 45 minutes.

I would like to disable notifications for all cameras (including cameras on doorbells) whenever the system is set to Home or Off (especially when off).  Is this possible and if so, how do I configure this in the app?

Please add us to that list. I’m losing my mind with these notifications.

Add me to the list. Otherwise my current workaround is to turn off notifications at the app level when alarm is off and back on for home/away. I don't know why the outdoors cameras can't have the same off/home/away options as the new smart alarm indoor camera. I'm only a few days in and this is a big deal and I'm seriously considering sending it all back. I know there are other alarm providers that provide this flexibility.

@crimso The Outdoor Camera was designed to detect motion at all times, but this is a request that our devs are aware of.

In the meantime, we do have a Snooze Notifications feature that may be useful to you. With this feature on, you can temporarily pause receiving motion events from your camera for a set amount of time. You can learn more about this feature in this Help Center article

Hello Emily,

If the developers are working on this, it would be ideal to have the customers be able to manually set the camera notification times for each camera, besides being based on Home or Away.  Sometimes, there are triggers, like someone going to work early in the morning, that a customer would like to exclude.

Thank you.

Add me to the list. We play outdoors a lot during the day, and can get up to 20-30 notifications during the course of the day. We are notified every time, and it has gotten so annoying that we have come to just ignore all notifications from Simplisafe. Which defeats the purpose of having a system to begin with.

It would be nice to have the option to turn off notifications instead of just snooze. It doesn't have to stop recording if it sees anything necessarily, but the constant notifications is not necessary. Having notifications only when the system is "armed" would be nice.

Update

It appears that there may be some censoring in effect here. I made 7 comments in this 'thread' about giving customers control of camera notifications. 6 of my recent stronger suggestions are buried and inaccessible, leaving the most benign one from months ago as the only one visible. I suspect that has also happened to others in this thread, obviating the benefit of a typical forum.

@TBender ,

You're thinking of a different thread. You've got a few replies over here, a request to be able to set times when the Outdoor Camera motion detection is active.

A more simple solution has also been requested here, where the Outdoor Camera is just active depending on which mode the alarm system is set to (i.e. Home/Away/Off). That one I can confirm is in active development, and we'll keep you updated when it's ready.

Please add me to the list. I’m losing my mind with these notifications. 😱😱😱

Agreed. Notifications are essentially useless, especially as there is only a total of one notification ever displayed. You can't tell that something new has happened, so for all practical purposes, they're ignored. It's discouraging to see this has been complained about for several years without the issue being corrected.

Add me to the list too!  This is a very frustrating situation.  Off should mean off.  No notifications.

Add me to this list also. Is there any movement on this suggestion? The original post was in 2021 😣
