3 minute cycle

At night my camera will sometimes alert for motion detected when nothing is there. Then precisely every three minutes thereafter, the phantom detection alert goes off again, and again and again.  Before too long the batteries are dead and it stops. or I have to turn off the motion detection.   I've resigned to myself that SimpliSafe outdoor cameras are no good waste of money.

@jbriare My two outdoor cameras and other customers that I know with the cameras don't have this issue while, unfortuantely, from posts in the community, it appears many others do. I wouldn't give up quite yet but call SS to troubleshoot and at least ask for it to be replaced. One tip: my fornt cameras faces a street light .  The way I first had it angled, and if it was a bit foggy, rain, snow etc it would "detect motion" a lot but not have the every 3 minute behaviour. A slight change in the direction away from the street light  with no ill efrect on covering my driveway and front lawn did the trick.

Good luck and please post your outcome here if you get a chance.

i keep Simplysafe for the alarm monitoring but a Camera System that needs constant babysitting was a waste of money. I cannot endorse or promote Simplysafe.

We are constantly having this problem (at least once a week) with one of our outdoor cameras. This issue appears only happen at night. Drains the battery like crazy. I saw in another thread that there were firmware updates to "fix" the issue, but doesnʻt appear to have fixed it. Our camera is on v1.15.6.391.

@kalapaki96766 There is an announced firmware update 1.18 that is coming...should have been out already but actually has been rolled back for some.  My two outdoor cameras are on AC (planned that way from the start) but if not an option for you you may want to look into solar panel. If it matter, tested the new SA indoor cameras and they went beyond the claimed 30 day period before requiring to be recharged.

You can also call support and they can offer suggestions on configuartion to extend battery life.

Another request that I believe they are working on is setting the camera active by system state (off, home away)

@kalapaki96766 A fix to the issue you describe was rolled out in a pervious firmware update. If you reset your camera using the steps in this Help Center article, does that stop this three-minute recording cycle? If it doesn't, please let me know!
