This App Is Unavailable For Your Device

I have a relative with an older Android phone.  The app was installed a while back, but it will not update.  Trying to update to the new version on the Google Play Store yields the message "This App Is Not Available For Your Device."  The phone has the following specs:

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime
Model # SM-J727T1
OS Android 8.1.0
Sept 1 2020 - Last Security Patch

It cannot accept any newer security patches either.

I also cannot download the newest version of the app to the Bluestacks Android emulator, which was possible to do so in the past.  Is this an issue with the Simplisafe app or is Google to blame here?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi @MrBee,

The SimpliSafe mobile app requires Android 9 and above for its latest updates. Unfortunately, anything older than Android 9 cannot support the app's newer updates.

Can the security system be used if you don't have access to the app?

@nacoates1194 You can update your system and device settings and arm/disarm your system using the Keypad and SimpliSafe web app, but if you want to add any cameras or Smart Locks to your system, that needs to be done through the mobile app.

This is extremely frustrating. So I have to buy a newer phone to use simplisafe? I just ordered a customized system with indoor camera. Are you telling me I won't be able to use my camera if I don't have a newer phone with android 9? Why isn't there a disclaimer on your website that lets me know this BEFORE I decided to purchase the system? What is the deal here? I have already spent damn near $400 for a system that should damn well be compatible with all android versions. You guys are ridiculous. It's always something to make life unnecessarily complicated. Now I must go out and buy a damn new phone. Christ almighty.
