SS integration w/ smart thermostats?

Hello, I have the complete SS 3rd gen installed, but am now going to also install a smart thermostat as well.

I would like to set it up so that when the system is armed in "away" mode, the thermostat also turns to an away status to save on utilities.

I see that Nest is supposed to be compatible w/the use of Google Home.  I'm not too familiar with these smart home systems.  Does this actually work like this when all 3 are connected together (SS, Nest, Google Home)?  As long as both devices (SS and thermostat) can connect to Google Home, can this 'away integration' work with any thermostat, since Google Home is monitoring statuses and controlling devices?  In particular, I was wanting to install an Emerson Sensi ST75, which is compatible w/Google Home...

Thanks for any insight!

Hi,

I have some bad news. As of right now, SimpliSafe is not longer able to integrate with Nest thermostats directly. This is due to a change that Google made quite a while back, with how Nest accounts work.

However, your SimpliSafe system can be added to your Google Home, and you can add your security system to a routine. So for example, if you set up a voice command for when you're leaving the house, it can arm your system, as well as change your temperature.

The main limitation is that Google is not able to disarm your SimpliSafe system, so you'll still have to type in your PIN or use the SimpliSafe app to disarm, and that can't be used as a trigger for other actions in your Google Home.

Hi, thanks for the info.  I guess the good news is, I don't necessarily have to buy a Nest t-stat anymore.

Do you happen to know if, by simply pressing the 'arm away' on keyfob, I can get Google Home to notice and then set the t-stat?

Anyway, I'll start researching more on Google Home now.  Thanks again!

@jossde as far as I know, arming in Home or Away also can't be used as a trigger (Google calls them "Starters"). For Google Assistant routines, it has to be either a Voice Command, a specific time, or when you dismiss an alarm.
