Smart Home

Just installed my system. Tried unsuccessfully to connect my Echo Dot. Called support. "You must have the monitoring service to use Alexa." This system will not work with smart home devices without paying a subscription. ridiculous!!!

If that is a big enough issue for you, don't forget you can return the system, no questions asked, within 60 days of purchase.

I know I can return the system. My point: Why do we need to pay a monthly fee to use a smart device with the system. I can understand it for monitoring or video storage. Also, nothing on their website or advertising tells you this.

The advertising is not that clear on this, I agree.  You'll have to choose what you want to do now I guess.  When I bought mine I didn't plan on having the monitoring originally, then decided to try it, was scared to death of it at first as I thought cops would be coming out on false alarms constantly, but that never happened and now years later I love having the monitoring setup.  In the great scheme of all my various bills, SS is among the cheapest really.

And just to add this, IMO the Aexa skill is only fun once or twice.  We never use it and we are Alexa addicts.  My house is pretty teched out, but the alarm system is just kinda annoying.  You have to ask Alexa to ask Simplisafe to lock up, then it asks if you are sure you want to alarm in Home, then you say yes.  Easier to just put a keypad in every room and hit a button in my opinion.  

Now if SS ever gets included in Alexa routines, then that will be a game changer.

I appreciate what everyone is saying about this. Probably right about being fun for a short time but that actually helps make my point. Considering what little you can do with it at the moment, charging for it is even more ridiculous. I don't know of any other smart capable device that charges for the convenience.

I got this system because my wife is home alone a lot. We didn't get it to catch a theft when we're not here. Just to wake us up when we are.

Google home integration
I am a new customer and also would love to see more integration. For me, personally, with Google Home. For us also the only thing we are able to do it arm the system with paid monitoring, which I agree shouldn't be the case.

Can anyone from Simplisafe respond on a timeline for proper integration with Google Home - I would love to be able to arm and disarm my system directly from my Home app and to be able to see my camera there also (I have a second security camera which is much simpler and provides said integration!).
Please add this feature request and give us a timeline as to when we can expect to see proper integration!

I too would like to see more intergration with GH.  I'm sure it will take both  Google and SS to work on it.

Did you know you can also check the status of the SS system by saying "what is the status of the alarm system?"  It will respond with either it is disarmed or armed home or away.
