Simplisafe App randomly plays demo video

Not sure if this happens on iPhone, but on android with the Simplisafe app, whenever we get a push notification it sometimes randomly starts playing the demo/setup video. This happens on multiple android devices we have. This happens the most when we get a notification for our doorbell. 

On the latest App version, and latest basestation firmware. Anyone run into this issue before and have any solutions for a fix?

My partner and I both get the setup video playing after a Doorbell notification.

Both of us have Samsung Android phones.

OK, I was able to "fix" by changing the notification sound for the "Doorbell Ring" category under:
Settings > Notifications > App Notifications > SimpliSafe > Notification categories


Changing it to any other sound fixed the issue.


I was able to reset it to the SimpiSafe default sound by downloading the App APK and extracting the file: res\asf.wav
Then I converted that to a mp3 and added it to my phone's notification directory.

This res\ directory is also where the setup videos are stored, so that is probably one reason how the confusion happened.

@whiteaces A possible link here.  I reported to SS that on the android (latest version, Pixel 8) when I unlock my door and ring my doorbell, the audio for the video starts, and then ends when I relock the door. I am not sure if the video plays too but the audio definetely does.  Advised by SS they are looking into it.

Yes, we're currently tracking similar cases. But you mention that you're seeing the app actually play the video, and not just the sound? And you're seeing it on multiple different types of event?

Hi Davey,

No to clarify, it does play the actual video, you are correct it just seems to be playing the audio that is from the video. If I recall most of the times it was from a doorbell notification, but I do recall one time it was from a different event that was not the doorbell, but could not recall what the exact event was.

@Mrvaderx​ On your phone, you can go to:
Settings > Notifications > App Notifications > SimpliSafe
And change the sound file that plays for "Doorbell Ring".

@Mrvaderx​ Our devs have found that removing the SimpliSafe mobile app from your device and then redownloading it resolves this issue. I would recommend trying that to see if it stops the incorrect audio from playing.
