iOS-App Lock PIN resets after app logs out

Sometimes the app logs itself out, not sure why, but whenever it does this it erases the app lock pin I had set, and I invariably go for a time without realizing it. Is there a way to stop this behavior? I know I can log out every time and log back in with Face ID but I'd rather not. Thanks in advance
