Google Voice SMS
Simplisafe -- just like my banks -- should support sending text messages regardless of carrier. It's ridiculous that SMS needs to be tied to a specific carrier. I need security monitoring because I'm frequently overseas for extended periods. So of course I use a local (non-US) cell provider/SIM card when I'm there. I'm not going to turn on international roaming for my US cell phone for such an extended period just for Simplisafe. Google Voice allows me to use my US number while overseas, and Simplisafe is the ONLY vendor/company I use that forces selection of a US carrier just to send an SMS message. It's going to force me to change to another company.

The issue we're running into here is related to how our Smart Alerts via SMS are sent out. We use each provider's web-to-text gateway - so essentially our server sends out an email, and each cell provider receives it and relays to your phone.
Unfortunately, Google Voice is not a traditional carrier, and they don't provide such a gateway. So our Smart Alerts via SMS won't work through that provider at all.
However, if you have a smartphone, we strongly suggest enabling Push Notifications through the SimpliSafe app. Assuming that you have data enabled on your local service while abroad, or at least have access to WiFi, you can still get the notifications.
