Upgrading To Gen 3 SimpliSafe®
Updated
This article is about upgrading from an Original SimpliSafe® system to our new Gen 3 system. If you currently have an original system, see our Upgrade to Best-in-Class Security article to learn more about our great upgrade deal.
Congratulations on upgrading to the next generation of SimpliSafe®. This article will walk you through the steps you need to take to transition from your Original SimpliSafe® system to your new Gen 3 system.
If you are unsure of which version of the SimpliSafe® system you have, look at the images below:
Getting Started:
Disarm your old system by setting the system to OFF
Power down your old system by unplugging the Base Station from power and removing all four batteries.
Power on your new Base Station by plugging it into power. Then remove the battery tab.
You should hear the Base Station say “Welcome to SimpliSafe”
Setting Up Your New Base Station:
Open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your smartphone or tablet
Select My System from the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen
Choose Base Station Settings
Scroll to the bottom of the screen, select Replace Base Station, and follow the on-screen instructions
Setting Up Your New System:
Once you have transferred your account to your new Gen 3 SimpliSafe®, you can start setting up the system.
The light on your Base Station should be white, meaning that the system is in pairing mode.
Bring the Keypad close to your Base Station and then pull out its battery tab. It should search for, and connect to, your new Base Station automatically.
If your Keypad shows an Out of Range error message, please see our Error: Keypad Out of Range article to resolve this.
If you have multiple Keypads, don’t worry about the others for now.
To install your new SimpliSafe® devices, open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App and go to the three-bar menu in the upper left corner of the screen > Add New Device or Camera > and follow the on-screen prompts
The sensors from your Original SimpliSafe® system are not compatible with the new Gen 3 system. Please remove the old sensors and install the new Gen 3 sensors in the same location.
