Test Mode is a system state you can manually enter through the menu on your Keypad to check the connection between the Base Station and our Monitoring Center. While in Test Mode, you can also test the connection between your Base Station and other SimpliSafe® devices on your system.
Entering Test Mode does not affect your Monitoring Status. However, if your Duress PIN is entered on your Smart Lock’s PIN Pad while your system is in Test Mode, the Monitoring Center will act as if it’s an emergency.
When a system with monitoring enters Test Mode, it prompts an automated call from the Monitoring Center and generates a “User Initiated Test” event on your timeline within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App. The automated call is not considered an emergency and may not have the same response time as an actual alarm event. If you do not answer this call, don’t worry. You’ll get a voicemail, but it will not result in a request for dispatch. Our Monitoring Center simply reaches out to the Primary Contact to let them know that the monitoring services received the test signal.
How to Test Your Devices
Press the Menu button on your Keypad and enter your Master PIN
Scroll down to Test Mode and press the right side of the Keypad’s screen to enter this state
You’ll know that you are in Test Mode when the Keypad’s screen says “Test each device by pressing its button”
Once you have finished testing your devices, press the left side of the Keypad’s screen to exit Test Mode

To test the Entry Sensor’s connection with the Base Station, press the button on the top of the Entry Sensor. The Base Station will say “Entry Sensor,” confirming that the test was successful.
To confirm that the Entry Sensor was mounted correctly, open the door or window that it is mounted on. The Base Station will say “Entry Sensor” once it detects that the sensor has been opened.
To test your Motion Sensor’s connection to the Base Station, press the button on the top (or bottom, if you have pets and mounted the Motion Sensor upside down) of the device. You’ll hear the Base Station say “Motion Sensor,” confirming that the test was successful.
To test if the Motion Sensor detects motion from its spot, leave the room for 15 seconds and then re-enter the room. The Base Station will say “Motion Sensor” once you have been detected.
To test the Glassbreak Sensor’s connection to the Base Station, press the button on the top of the device. The Base Station will say “Glassbreak Sensor,” confirming that the test was successful. Pressing the Glassbreak Sensor’s button in Test Mode will also lower its threshold so it can be triggered by just the sound of a clap.
Walk to the window(s) you want your Glassbreak Sensor to watch over and clap your hands once. The Base Station will say “Glassbreak Sensor,” confirming that the sensor detected the clap.
Press the button on the top of the sensor. The Base Station will say “Freeze Sensor,” confirming that the test was successful.
Press the button on the top of the sensor. The Base Station will say “Water Sensor,” confirming that the test was successful.
Press and hold the Panic Button for 2 seconds. The Base Station will say “Panic Button” to confirm that the test was successful.
Press and release the clear button on the front of the Smoke Detector, holding it for no longer than one second. The Smoke Detector will beep 3-4 times, and the Base Station will also announce “Smoke Detector,” confirming that the test was successful.
Press and release the Test/Mute button on the front of the Carbon Monoxide Detector, holding it for no longer than one second. The device will beep 3-4 times, and the Base Station will also announce “Carbon Monoxide Detector,” confirming that the test was successful.
Press and release the Test Button on the front of the Smoke & CO Detector, holding it for no longer than 1 second. The device will beep 3-4 times, and the Base Station will also announce “Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector” to let you know that the test was successful.
To test the Alarm Listener's connection with the Base Station, press and hold the Test Button on the front of the Alarm Listener for 5 seconds. You will then see a solid red LED light on the front face of the Alarm Listener, and the Base Station will say “Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listener” to confirm that the test was successful.
To test if the Alarm Listener can hear alarms from your third-party smoke or CO detectors, first confirm that there is a red light on the front of the Alarm Listener. If there is not, press and hold the Test Button on the front of the device for 5 seconds.
Next, initiate a test alarm on your detector. If you don’t know how to do this, please refer to its manual. After the test alarm is initiated, the Base Station will announce “Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listener” to confirm a successful connection between the Alarm Listener and third-party detector.
Press the test button on the top of the Extra Siren to test its connection with the Base Station. Remember that the Extra Siren is a 105dB siren, so please be sure to protect your ears during the test.
You’ll know that the test was successful when the Base Station announces “Extra Siren.”
Once you have finished testing all of your SimpliSafe® devices, press the left side of the Keypad’s screen to exit Test Mode. When exiting Test Mode, your system will continue to be monitored as normal. Please be careful not to press the red Panic Button on the top of the Keypad after exiting Test Mode, as that will trigger an alarm.
