How to Replace the Original SimpliSafe® System's Batteries

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe. Click here to view the article for the Gen 3 SimpliSafe. With the exception of the Base Station, all of the components for the Original SimpliSafe have batteries that can and should be replaced periodically. The Base Station has a special, rechargeable brand of battery. To replace your Base Station’s batteries, please contact support. 

To replace the batteries for other components, please follow the instructions below.

Entry Sensor:

  • Slide the Entry Sensor off of its mounting bracket. This will expose its CR-123A Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Motion Sensor:

  • Slide the Motion Sensor off of its mounting bracket. This will expose its CR-123A Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

 Glassbreak Sensor:

  • Slide the Glassbreak Sensor off of its mounting bracket. This will expose its CR-123A Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Smoke Detector:

  • Twist the Smoke Detector counterclockwise to remove it from its mounting bracket. 

  • Lift the hatch covering the battery compartment. This will expose the Smoke Detector’s CR-123A Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Keychain Remote:

  • Take the cap off the end opposite to the keyring.

  • On the long side opposite from the button, slide that piece away from the keyring, this will expose the Keychain Remote’s CR-1632 Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced. 

Keypad:

  • Slide the Keypad up and off of its mounting bracket.

  • Slide the battery cover off of the back of the Keypad. This will expose four AA batteries, which can then be replaced.

Extra Siren:

  • Slide the Siren up and off of its mounting bracket.

  • Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws that are holding the battery cover in place.

  • Remove the battery cover. This will expose four AA batteries, which can then be replaced.

Panic Button:

  • Slide the Panic Button up and off of its mounting bracket. This will expose its CR-2032 Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Temperature/Freeze Sensor:

  • Slide the Temperature/Freeze Sensor up and off of its mounting bracket. This will expose its CR-2450 Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Water Sensor:

  • Slide the Water Sensor and off of its mounting bracket.

  • Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws that are holding the battery cover in place.

  • Remove the battery cover. This will expose its CR-2450 Lithium 3V battery, which can then be replaced.

Carbon Monoxide Detector:

**Please note that we no longer offer CO Detectors for the Original SimpliSafe system. If you are having an issue with your Original SimpliSafe CO Detector, please contact support to find out how to upgrade your system.

  • Position the Carbon Monoxide Detector in your hand so that the “DO NOT PAINT” text is rightside up, directly in front of you. The shape outlining the “CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM” text is the battery cover.

  • Press your finger into the oval-shaped button below the “DO NOT PAINT” text.

  • Once you feel the button compressing, slide the battery cover towards you. This will expose the three Energizer AA “Ultimate Lithium” 1.5V* batteries, which can then be replaced. SimpliSafe can and will provide these batteries for you, so please give our customer support team a call if you need to replace the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide Detector.
