Your SimpliCam should only be responding to its motion sensor, or events from your SimpliSafe system if you have it attached. So something else might be going on. If you haven't already, please do give us a call at 1-888-957-4675 so our Support team can help you troubleshoot.

Go to your timeline and figure out what the recordings are for. "motion detected" is a recording event.
Then go from there.

My camera has being doing the same thing, they have someone invading peoples personal privacy. My camera constantly clicks on and starts recording when the system isn’t armed. Why is this happening, isn’t it against the law?

Our camera just activated and opened the shutter when it shouldn't have. No, I did not arm nor disarm the system. The privacy setting was set to on. We've had this system for a few years and know how it's supposed to work. I decided to look it up online and noticed others here saying the same thing. Makes me want to throw it out and try something a little more reliable and secure.

I have this exact same problem. This must be a simplisafe bug. I'll try the recommended fix, but this is unacceptable as it feels like someone is spying on us!

Just happened to me as well. Nothing should have prompted the shutter to open and camera to record yet it did. I searched the problem online to find this thread. Seems like enough of an issue to warrant a system wide fix rather than customers just resetting the camera each time it happens. This is a “security” company.

This has been happening to me also for about 4-5 days. Two days ago I didn’t have time to reset it or further investigate it so I took it down from its mount and laid it lens down on my counter and couldn’t get to it for a day. When I picked it up, movement didn’t trigger it to open, so I remounted it and it hasn’t opened since. Just weird….

This has been happening to us for years. We have several cameras and its odd that it really only happens to two of them that are in two of the major hang out areas, maybe that's just where we notice it. Camera set to shutter closed, alarm set to off, camera shutter opens, recording light on, and no event in the timeline. It is quite creepy but I flick it the bird and move on. I'm like they get what they get creepy rouge simplisafe employees. I get out of the shower, walk to the dryer to get a towel, snap camera is on, well they get what they get; mid-40's dad-bod, ha. Maybe its just a regular but inconsistent system glitch. Maybe. These days though, seems a lot of creepy people doing lots of creepy stuff. The simple explanation for this simplisafe bug seems to me to be creepy simplisafe workers, simpli. lol.

My post was from a month ago (above) and I'm just following up. I keep seeing the same response from the Community Admin verifying that's it's likely happening when the system is armed/disarmed. Respectfully, READ the posts from your customers! The below 8 quotes come from the 12 people posting this same concern on the community board. I understand that you have a hard time believing this could happen, but enough customers are telling you that it is. Please don't keep asking if we happened to just arm/disarm our systems when the problem occurred. We did not. Please instead pass this along to your system developers so that the problem gets fixed.
"...it randomly opens the shutter and will record."
"...occasionally opens the shutter and lights up, when unprompted in off or home mode."
"My camera constantly clicks on and starts recording when the system isn’t armed."
"No, I did not arm nor disarm the system."
"The indoor camera will randomly open the shutter and the blue recording light starts to flash."
"No interaction with the system in its disarmed state."
"Nothing should have prompted the shutter to open and camera to record yet it did."
"This is not the usual recording it does immediately after we disarm our system. It happens multiple times when the system is in the disarmed state."
These posts should not just be read and responded to individually. These community forums should also be used by SimpiSafe to recognize patterns for continuous product improvement.
I think at this point we'd all appreciate hearing that this is indeed being addressed and also knowing once it has been fixed. I personally am not going to keep this system if our security concerns aren't taken serious.
I appreciate your efforts.

I’ve been having the same issue as everyone else here. Feels like SimpliSafe employees or hackers are watching us when our cameras are set to off. This is completely unacceptable and a violation of our privacy. We need a better answer from SimpliSafe support than trying to gaslight us into believing we don’t know how our devices and settings are supposed to work.
