Additional User Access Now Available!

We’re excited to announce that a popular feature request from our Community is now available - Additional User Access! Now you can grant system access to other users without needing to share your account’s login credentials. Users on your account can arm and disarm your system, cancel or escalate an alarm, and more with the SimpliSafe® app!

Users may only be added from within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your phone or tablet. To add a user, follow the steps below:

  1. Update your SimpliSafe® Mobile App to the latest version
  2. Open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your phone or tablet
  3. Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar
  4. Select System Access from the bottom of this screen
  5. Click on Add User
  6. Fill out each field with the person’s name and email address
  7. Tap on Add New User when you’re done
  8. Choose Confirm to confirm they have an account
  9. If successful, you’ll receive a confirmation screen that reads: New email added!
  10. You can select Done if you are done, or choose Add Another User if you need to add additional Users

For more information about this feature, please visit our Help Center’s Additional User Access for SimpliSafe® article.

Should an added user be able to receive push notifications?  That option isn't showing for the user I added. They can get email and SMS notifications.

@Pack Yes, Users on your account should be able to receive push notifications. We previously submitted your case to our tech team to look into further. We see that they reached out to you, so please check your voicemail and email for next steps.

Got one call that I missed a week ago. They haven't called back or given instructions on voice mail.  Please have them email me steps.   Thanks.

@Pack A member of the team also should have emailed you after they made the call. Please check your inbox (and spam box, just in case) for next steps from the team.

When should an Additional User expect the System Control widget to work?  After such a long wait for this feature—including launching a year after it was promised—it feels like an incomplete implementation because the widget perpetually displays a "You need to login to use the widget" message even for a user who is already authenticated within the app.

@Crease Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have submitted your case details to our tech team for further investigation. A member of the team will be in touch soon to help, so please keep an eye on your email inbox.

@simplisafe_admin, thanks for the reply.  For whatever it's worth, I updated the app today to 7.26.0, and the widget is still broken even after I re-authenticate with the app and drop a new copy of the widget on my phone's home screen.

@simplisafe_admin, how soon is "soon", and when should I expect this contact?  It's been over a week since your previous message, and I've received no communication from the tech team.

@Crease We connected with the team, and they did attempt to reach out to you via email, so please check the inbox of the email address associated with your Community account. Please also check your spam box to ensure it did not go there in error.

@simplisafe_admin, thank you for the update, but I'm not seeing it.  Even when I search all of my e-mail (including Spam) for "SimpliSafe", I'm seeing no such message.  What's the originating e-mail address I should use in my search?

I've verified my e-mail address in my profile here.  It's correct.  I'd also note that even though I'm "following" this topic I haven't been receiving e-mail updates whenever new replies are added to this thread, so I know about new information only when it occurs to me to visit here and check again (thus the delay of this response by several days).

What are all the limitations placed on the user account? Can they change settings, delete videos, deactivate cams?

@drhodes, I think the article linked in the initial post answers your second question.

@drhodes Users on your account cannot remove an Owner from the system, change/see billing information, and they have limited access to Active Guard Outdoor Protection functions.

Users can:

  • Arm and disarm the system remotely

  • Cancel or escalate alarms

  • View timeline, activity, system status, and live camera streams

  • View, download, and delete video recordings

  • Manage alert and notification settings

  • Manage device and system settings

The addition of this new feature is very much appreciated; however, it needs tweaking by having the option to limit the users as to what they can do.  Arming/disarming the system, cancelling or escalating the alarm is all I would want other users to do and not the "more".  I don't want them changing any of the settings or deleting any of the videos, for example.  The best thing would be to have different levels of access from basic users to owner-like users, so that basic users can have access to the basics of using the system and have the convenience of using the app.  At this time, I'm told that basic users could only use a key fob or the key pad.  They key fob is somewhat bulky and easy to loose, and the keypad is located in a private area.  So the app would be the most efficient method. I hope this matters enough to make these changes.  Thank you! :)

It was recommended I make a clarification about my request.
Basic users:  arming, disarming and responding to alarms only.  Do not have access to changing any settings or access to video functions such as access, edit or deleting.
vs. Owner-like users:  What you have presently.

This is what I mean.  Levels of access like this or similar.  Thank you!

@ss5065ms We will forward this suggestion to our devs for their consideration!

@simplisafe_admin, yeah, I think this feature as-is is a welcome improvement to the service—even with the insanely long delay after last year's promised delivery—but there are definitely ways it could be better.  Even without full granular control of provisioning permissions in something like a traditional administrator-user paradigm (which would likely be much more complex than most customers would want to manage), it seems like SimpliSafe could create more than one permission tier so that Additional Users could be granted groups of permissions at a time.
