siren offline

I have the message that my siren is offline.  Anyone know how to get it back online?

Hi @mckstl01,

Most likely, the batteries in your Siren need to be replaced. To replace those, follow these steps:

  1. Slide the Siren up and off of its mounting bracket.
  2. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws that are holding the battery cover in place.
  3. Remove the battery cover. This will expose four AA batteries, which can then be replaced.

If you'd prefer a visual, click here to view a video on that replacement in our Help Center.

I change the battery frequently and even though the siren never goes off, it says offline within a short time. Why can't these be plugged in or better battery options?

@jamesosuch The Extra Siren has an expected battery life of 1 year, depending on its placement and usage. You mention that your siren does not go off, so usage shouldn't be the culprit here; however, interference could be. Depending on the placement of the Extra Siren, the device could be forced to work harder to maintain its connection to the Base Station, which in turn could drain its batteries.

Interference can be caused by dense physical objects literally getting in the way between the Extra Siren and Base Station. If there are thick walls or heavy appliances between the two devices, that could be blocking the signal.

Interference can also be caused by other wireless signals competing for the same airspace. Since the Base Station uses a low frequency to communicate with the components, you'd want to look for simpler devices like remote controlled garage door openers, wireless weather stations, or some types of baby monitors and move them away from the Base Station.
