System Firmware 2.5 (November 2021)

Hi folks,

One more small update coming to your Base Stations, rolling out over the next several days. If you've never updated before, you can refer to our Help Center article here to get started.

Here's what's coming in Update 2.5:

  • Fix for an issue where Mesh WiFi access points might appear as separate SSIDs.
  • Improvements to the Smart Lock installation process.
  • WiFi stability improvements.
  • Support for improving Outdoor Camera response from system events.

Previous Updates:
Update 2.3 (July 2021)
Update 2.1 (March 2021)
Update 1.6 (April 2020)
Update 1.5 (January 2020)

On 12/2/21, we announced that a new software update is available for your SimpliSafe Gen 3 system. Good news: that software will be rolling out to your Base Station over the next few days. Be on the lookout for a gear icon on your Keypad.
Additional software updates will be coming soon to further improve your SimpliSafe experience. In the next month, we will be updating the software for our Wireless Outdoor Camera, which will enable faster motion alerts and better video quality. Be sure to update your Base Station software as soon as the gear icon appears on your Keypad, so that you can take advantage of the upcoming improvements to your Wireless Outdoor Camera. No additional action will be needed beyond updating your Base Station software.

Besides making sure you have the 4G module in your base station, you should know that sometimes the updates (via keypad) can use up all the battery charge before the update is finished.  When you said it was already taking 4 hours and no update finished, your batteries were probably already dead and the keypad couldn't connect to the base station (none of the firmware updates so far have taken longer than around 20 minutes or so - if you have more than one keypad, each one will take about the same amount of time as the first).  Next time, make sure all your keypads have fresh batteries installed BEFORE initiating an update.  Beyond that, I don't know why the update failed initially, and why your base station seemed inoperable as well, but a reboot of the base should have fixed that issue (the base station issue only, not necessarily the keypad, that might have been a battery problem).

To all: Used the new Gucci online support chat and the agent (very nice) advised the 2.5 update has still not been distributed yet. I asked the agent to please provide some timeline on when Simplisafe expecteed to complete the rollout to all of its customers. And, no, I have not received it yet. HO HO to everyone, a great holiday season to all.

Hi all,

A small update from our engineering team:

Update 2.5 had been rolling out to only select users over the past couple of weeks. But it has now been enabled for all users. As long as your Base Station is connected to WiFi, you'll see the Gear icon appear on your Keypad soon.
If your Base Station is already on Firmware 2.1 or higher, you'll also be able to select System Settings > Check for Updates to manually trigger the download!

Just got the update notification tonight, kicked it off from the keypad in the same room as the base station

Now, nothing works. The keypad says it can't communicate with the base station, nor the app on my phone

Device settings shows the keypad and the interior camera, but none of my other sensors or keyfobs.

Pulled the batteries from the base station and the keypad, no change.

I thought "Oh, I'll just re-add all the sensors." No dice. Unable to communicate with base station
Uninstalled and re-installed the app, no change.

I emailed support, we'll see what they have

jordanlund,

That is very concerning. I'm reporting this to our dev team right now, but it sounds like a replacement Base Station would be the best course of action. Please give us a call at 800-548-9508 and we'll take care of it.

Just received last night the update gear icon and applied it this morning, without issue, armed with nothing but a cup of coffee. In my instance, by the book, no issues.

That said, the following is a totally fictional scenario:

Welcome to the Simplisafe Customer Resource Center!
(Click on menu item "Software Release Area"
(Click on "SS3 updates"
Review the list and see "Rev. 2.5.x"  Description   release date    Scheduled Complete Date
"Click here for online chat support for update issues"

I think you get the idea.

I will thoroughly read through this thread for any potential problems with the update. The gear icon has been on my Keypad since 12/2, but I am always slow to apply due to being cautious.

I applied the firmware update, and so far, all is well. However, it probably was the second most extended application update since the first one (the Base Station download was swift, but the Keypad took a while). All other updates have taken far less than the estimated time given. This one took as long as the message on the Keypad indicated.

@rytrail That would be the update listed here: 2.5 for both.

I just updated tonight because I saw the gear icon.  My keypad, and my base station both have a 2.6 on them now.  Davey_d, do you know what this update is?
