System Firmware 2.1 (March 2021)
Hi folks,
We've got a major update rolling out to all customers soon. Lots of updates under the hood, including performance and security improvements. But there's quite a few noticeable new features as well!
If you've never updated before, here's how:
- Make sure your system is connected to WiFi
- Check that an update is available by heading over to your Keypad and looking for a Gear icon
- Press the side of the screen where the Gear icon is, and follow the on-screen instructions
Here's what's coming in Update 2.1:
- Improvements to WiFi performance and stability, including compatibility fix for Arris brand routers.
- Your SimpliSafe system will now appear on your router's list of connected devices as "SimpliSafe", and no longer "Espressif".
- Revamped Firmware Update process for a smoother experience when updating in the future.
- "Check for Updates" feature will now immediately request to download the latest update, rather than just checking if it's available to install.
- Fixed an issue where the Base Station LED might stay lit up after ringing your Video Doorbell.
For Users with an Arris brand Router:If you have an Arris WiFi router, you may of course not be able to connect your Base Station to that WiFi router, which is necessary to facilitate this firmware update. A possible workaround is to connect your Base Station to a different WiFi network temporarily, until the update is complete. Should you need to take your Base Station to a different location, you'll only need to bring your Keypads with you. Your sensors and other components can remain in place - you might just get error messages from them while they are out of range. |

That would be on your Keypad Menu, under System Settings > Diagnostics.

Good to hear! Yep, sounds like something was going wrong with your system's firmware, and replacing it with new firmware was the right fix.
alex_124,
We're slightly different in that we only have the one model Base Station - all Gen 3 systems should be getting this update. But as a reminder, your system needs to be connected to WiFi for the update to show up on your device. You can follow the instructions on my original post to set that up!

Also, would be nice if the app showed it as an Alert, vs the mailbox indicator. I missed that for a day.
So I applied it, and my keypad went dead. Had to remove all batteries, not just one. Keypad says it has 2.1.4, base has 2.1.18.
It would be nice if a SimpliSafe firmware update went smoothly...

As for the timing - we hit a couple of snags shortly after announcing the update and had to pause the rollout, but we had resumed as of April 1st. We do always stagger the rollout a bit so our server doesn't get overwhelmed, and if we catch another unforeseen issue, we can minimize the impact.
However, another part of this latest update gives you the ability to manually request an update when it's available (until now, it just rolled out automatically and you just had to wait for it to be available for you). Power Users will be able to initiate updates on your own schedule, from now on.

SimpliSafe might wish to duplicate the scenario to see if, for some, that is the only way the update is being made available.

However the WiFi is now rock solid, which was our primary concern. FWIW although I do not have an Arris router my WiFi issues seems quite similar to what the problem with Arris was (Very basically lack of 2 separate SSID for 5G and 2.4G confusing the system.) and 2.1 resolved it.

Sorry about that. Sounds like something unrelated to the update, if you hadn't actually initiated it yet. We've heard that it helps to take out the batteries and leave them out for a few minutes to clear out all the charge, then reinsert.
If the Keypad really just doesn't want to come back online, give our Support team a call at 800-548-9508. They can get you a replacement unit ASAP.

That may just be what your router has decided to name the connection (i.e. it stuck with the default). Are you able to rename it?
If you disconnect and reconnect, SimpliSafe should appear correctly - but renaming would be easier, of course.
