Smart Lock Firmware 1.2 (May 2020 Update)

Hi folks,

As you know, our engineering team is always working on improving the entire system. So we're happy to announce that a dedicated update, version 1.2 for the Smart Lock, is rolling out now. Here are the highlights:

  • Enhanced battery power management
  • Improvements to transmissions between Lock and Base Station
  • Performance and reliability improvements

We recommend this update for all users. Since the Smart Lock is a unique component, we do have a slightly different upgrade process for it. Here's how:

  1. Log into the SimpliSafe App
  2. On the Dashboard, you should see Update Available under your Smart Lock controls
  3. Tap the link to initiate the update process, and follow the on-screen instructions

Please note: You do need to be physically present with your Smart Lock, as the update is transmitted through Bluetooth. For best results, we strongly recommend that you keep your phone within a couple of feet of the Smart Lock. And please allow about 8-12 minutes for the update to complete!

Thanks for reaching out. There are a couple of things we can suggest:

1. Turn the Bluetooth on your phone off and on again, just to make sure that the bluetooth radio is active.

2. Reset your Smart Lock back to factory settings, by opening the battery compartment and pressing the button under the LEDs for 16 seconds. When you release, it'll go back to the setup mode. You'll have to reinstall it through the Keypad Menu again.

After the above, you can try updating the firmware through the app again. But if you continue to have trouble, give our Support team a call at 800-548-9508 for further troubleshooting, or a replacement unit if necessary.

I tried all of these tricks several times using my phone, a Google Pixel 3a, and nothing worked. Then I tried it with my wife's phone, a Moto G7 Power, and it worked immediately. If you're having trouble and you have access to a different phone, I'd try that.

I spoke with tech support on trying to figure why an trying all the methods, but the update won't go through for some unknown reason they went as far as to sending me a replacement smart lock and after setting it up and trying to update it said "Connection Failed' and my phone was at 100% charge while doing this

UPDATE: Update worked using a Samsung Galaxy s9

Is there any update on how to get my lock updated? I have tried all the tricks above:
Cycle out a battery for 10 seconds
Reset lock
Reset phone bluetooth
Use another type of phone (Pixel 3XL and Moto G)

I have tried to update this lock for months with the same result:
Press update to 1.1.2 on app
Lock will blink
App will say on "connecting to lock" for hours (i gave up after 3 hours)

Any help is appreciated.

@alishakihn1 If you're experiencing a problem updating your Smart Lock's firmware, it may help to disconnect any other Bluetooth devices any try the firmware update again. If that does not help, I would also try rebooting your phone.
