Outdoor Camera Firmware 1.7 (April 2022)

Hi folks,

As promised, we’re keeping these Wireless Outdoor Camera updates coming. Of course, like all camera updates, this one will roll out to all connected devices automatically - no user action required. You can check the current version installed on your camera by going to the Camera Settings section in the SimpliSafe app.

But if you have not already, we also encourage you to update your Base Station firmware to the latest version. You can learn more from our Help Center article here.

Here’s what’s coming to your Wireless Outdoor Camera:

  • Connection Check tool for troubleshooting WiFi signal (accessible through the SimpliSafe app)
  • Smoother experience when changing WiFi networks through the SimpliSafe app
  • Improved response for streaming and recording
  • Resolved a rare issue with motion detection, resulting in better battery life
  • Minor bug fixes and improvements

Yes after update to 1.7.3 ,  my outdoor camera battery is draining quickly. It’s plugged into the solar power. During the night the camera is recording every min.
I have the Motion set up to low and it still records every min. Took the battery out and rebooted the camera. It is still occurring. Is there a issue with the 1.7.3 update.

Thanks,

@tarunpatel99 thanks for reporting. I'll forward to our dev team.

@tarunpatel99 I’ve had the same issue. When I come home at night or if it detects any motion at night, the camera would keep sending me notifications every 3 minutes.

@tarunpatel99 Same. After updating to version 1.7 I'm getting 2 weeks max out of a battery. Before this latest update, I averaged 8 weeks per battery.

Same. I’ve tried to turn off motion events and it still keeps recording and sending me motion alerts every minute.  My spotlight stays on the whole night.

This is the worst experience having to change batteries every other week or less, with limited view and quality. Nothing stops  camera from battery draining. I really am displeased and disappointed that this has not been fixed.

I hope the continual spotlight flashing has been fixed! I had to disable it while waiting for a firmware fix.

Updates are always welcome.

A software reset needs to be included in the firmware or the equivalent established in the communications protocols with the base station that can be triggered remotely as needed. I'm 230 miles from the camera that has the best connectivity ("good") stats in the house, per the app, and yet it, among the five cameras, is the only one that won't stream. It gets stuck on "Launching Live View." Removing it from the system does no good, because I need to be local to reinstall it. This isn't a battery issue as it is at 100%. Not having the equivalent functionality of unscrewing the camera from the battery and resetting it locally, makes the relatively expensive security camera absolutely worthless, and my property vulnerable as a result.

We haven’t had any problems with this update until a few minutes ago. We’re now getting updates on all of our devices, repeated updates, about motion that occurred 25 minutes ago when we went out front where the camera is. All-in-all this camera has been a subpar experience, mainly due to how long it takes to wake up. And ours in connected to power 24/7. (Just got another notification.)

I have had SimplySafe for about two years. My system has never received an up date. I have never gotten the gear symbol on any of my three keypads. Whenever I check for updates using the keypad it always says my system is up to date.

I have worked with support on multiple calls to try and figure out why my system will not receive an update. The system has been on WiFi since the day I installed it. Support has sent me two replacement base stations and my system will still not receive updates.

My software versions are:

2.3.1.0 for the base station

1.6.2 for two keypads

1.4.2 for one keypad

Not sure what to do to get this fixed.

Hello @rongalla , thanks for letting us know about your issue. I see that you also created a thread, and I will answer there.

I've got 1.7.3.312 on my outdoor camera currently. Same issue it sounds like everyone else is having...the motion activation is so late that it only captures people leaving...which does absolutely nothing for security. Needs to be fixed immediately. Additionally, the spot light stays on all night once it's activated initially. Can't believe Simpli Safe would put out such a defective product and take our money for it. Clearly it's not ready and a complete waste. Whatever you do, do not buy this camera until it's fixed.

Please upgrade camera software to allow outdoor cameras to run on a schedule. I get tired of getting a notification every time someone goes out my front door!!!

this is a major reason to not use what is otherwise a great system.

I have the same issue with it. The camera covers the back of the property but I'd like it to ignore motion when the alarm system is off.  Instead I keep getting notifications when I do anything in the back of the property. Sure you can turn the camera off manually or "snooze" it if you are carrying your phone with you but it should be able to be set just like the indoor camera.

My outdoor camera is running 1.12.2.384.  I received this camera as a replacement camera about two weeks ago.  Initially it said an update was available but after several attempts, it disappeared.  Am I able to initiate a hunt for updates?
