The very first update back in 2018, I never had a gear icon, but did have an update available when checking in settings. In settings, it did prompt to download. Since then, the last two updates have had the gear icon, as well as the red bell on the dashboard page (the red bell alert used to be unreliable, but I believe SS said they fixed that issue after about the 2nd or 3rd update).

My brand new system recognized ONLY the first motion sensor, and failed to recognize any other sensor after that-- motion, water or entry. I was hoping that updating the firmware would fix that, but it lies and claims to be up to date.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
NEWS FLASH: By using the TEST MORE I discovered that the Base unit DID connect with the other sensors, but did not tell me about it on the keypad, except for the very first motion sensor. So things are not as bleak as they looked a little while ago, but why does the system pretend to be up to date?

P.S. Another way to determine if you have an update available: If you have interactive monitoring, on your online control panel, on the dashboard page, there is a little bell to the far upper right - if an update is available, that bell will be red, click on it, and it will give notice an update is available to install.

That's right. The rollout is happening gradually, so not everyone will have it available all at once. You'll know that the update is available when the gear icon appears on the Keypad screen, but you can also force a check by navigating through the Keypad menu:
Menu > System Settings > Check For Updates
Again, it's very important that your system is connected to WiFi, or the update will not go through. If you don't have WiFi at your location, don't forget that you can bring just the Base Station and Keypad to another location to complete the update.
@Captain11 we're working on improvements to the forum, of course. For now, we'll keep posting firmware updates here, so we'll have a record that we can point to when new users join us.

My online account notifies me. I also get a notice via the app (both will include a red dot on the envelope) and a Keypad gear icon. It has never added Release Notes, but I always know when I have a software update (I just stopped applying them after the second due to a lack of Release Notes - personal choice until now).

Btw, I reluctantly did the update - luckily it went fine, no bricked keypads this time!
