Indoor Camera Recording in Home mode

My indoor camera is recording in home mode and sending me alerts. This is disturbing and intrusive to my privacy.

My indoor camera is sending me motion alerts when in home mode. I verified it is set home mode shutter closed. This is scary and unsettling. Is this happening to others? How is this possible. Thinking about unplugging and returning the system.

If the privacy shutter is turned off for each camera, it won't be recording as the shutter will be completely closed. What I'd recommend here is to toggle the shutter on/open, then turn it back off for each camera in question to ensure that it is closed. You can do this on the SimpliSafe app by going to the three-bar menu, selecting My System, then Camera Settings and choose your camera. Then, select Home Mode and toggle the setting, waiting a few seconds before toggling it back to off.

If you still receive motion alerts after taking those steps please let me know.

@alexandria_c I cycled the shutter several times. What I have observed is: Set to "home" mode camera not operational. Set back to "Off" camera immediately starts shutter opens and camera records. I verified my home and off settings for the indoor camera are set to closed. I toggled between home and off several times and the camera started each time with or without motion also.

I called tech support this is what they sent me, It clearly indicates the indoor camera will record no matter what state if motion is detected. And when switching from home to off in the morning for me it records me in my house.  This seems in direct conflict with the words on the app - a closed shutter gives you an extra level of privacy when at home. with the setting set to closed for the particular state how is it allowed to open and record?

When does the SimpliCam Indoor Camera record?

The SimpliCam Indoor Camera records during the following events:

  • Alarms

  • Disarming your SimpliSafe system

  • Camera Detected Motion

  • User Triggered Recording

  • Secret Alerts (When Enabled)

  • User-Initiated Test of the SimpliSafe system

  • Duress Alarm

  • Silent Panic button

  • Entry Delay (After entering your home while the system is alarmed)

  • Power Restored

@dboehm7 The privacy shutter will briefly open when you change alarm states to OFF, which is covered in the Help Center article under 'disarming your system'. This is to ensure that if someone were to get into your home and disarm your system with your master PIN, the footage would be captured briefly for that period of time. That said, after a period of time the shutter does close again to retain your privacy within the home.

I'll be touching base with our team internally to get that article updated to include information about the privacy shutter as well, as right now the only article we have for the privacy shutter can be found here

Thank you for following up. You may want to reconsider the language used to describe what happens. Briefly implies a very short time. It is much longer than a brief moment. My camera opens and is filming for 1 minute. It does not feel good knowing I am standing in my living room in the morning ( sometimes not clothed )and being filmed like this for this duration. It feels very intrusive to my privacy. I was not informed of this intrusive action and the app and descriptions lead on to believe this type of thing would never happen.

One thing I found out was after you dis arm your system it is usually for a small amount of time but if you are walking around it is detecting motion so it may stay on longer until the motion is no longer

My camera is aimed at an object 1/2 inch from the lens now. It cannot detect motion. When I change states (home to off) in the morning it starts filming. I timed it several times. It is 60 seconds of the camera being on and filming. I will only move/rotate  the camera to have a room view when we leave for an extended period of time. It is disappointing to me when the sense of privacy is stressed in product literature ( read what the app says) when it clearly is not executed by how the product is deployed. Sort of like not being truthful to someone.

I'm having the same issue. I walked out into the kitchen and the camera started recording me in home mode at 2:00 in the morning in my shorts. Then I went into the living room to see if it was just a fluke in the living room was camera was on recording.

@rfmjm3 assuming that your cameras are both set to Closed in Home Mode, then they definitely shouldn't be recording. That is, unless a system event had been triggered; for example, if you opened the door and initiated the countdown, or if you had put the system in Test Mode. Did anything like that happen for you?

I’m having this issue ongoing and it seems the app is flip flopped. When the privacy shutter is toggled to Open, the shutter is down and doesn’t detect or record. When it’s set to Closed, the shutter is open and detects and records. Could this be an app issue?
