In app Panic Button

Would it be possible to integrate an in app panic button to the system? Large dogs trigger motion sensors and it's impossible to protect every window against breakage and opening. An in app panic button would be helpful if the camera captures motion and we see something while we're away from home. The cameras aren't exactly loud enough to cause intruders to panic.

Panic Button in App

Actually, it would be a unique dwelling indeed where it would be "impossible" to protect every window against both breakage and opening.  Difficult, maybe, but impossible is a word we don't like to use because so  often we can be proven wrong.

Seven, you have to run for political office. If I lived in your district, you would have my vote. If only our elected leaders thought the same.

Hi there,

While an in-app Panic Button is not currently a feature, your input has been sent to our dev team.

Yes an in app panic button would be great. I have the key fob but I don't take it to my bedroom. I live in a townhome and when I am the second floor I still feel a little helpless if there is an intruder that somehow by passes the alarm system

This is literally a no brainer. An update with an in-app panic button is an easy thing to do and safer for costumers. Please update asap!

Where are we with this, Simplisafe? It’s been a year. :)

@simplisafe_admin  add it already, look at the post on my page for an idea of how to implement it

As I understand it, to run for political office, you tell all the bad stuff about your opponent (and make up some if there is not enough), and say nothing whatever about your own vision for the position.  Sorry, I could not bear to be involved with that sort of behavior.

@sevensiamesecats excellent acceptance speech, with the reasons people would vote for you...

Um, they make a dedicated panic button sensor, which you can mount next to your bed and anywhere else you spend a lot of time.  In a crisis, do you really think you can access the app quickly and reliably?

Panic buttons are useful if you're at home but they don't help if you're not there. The intent would be for activating the alarm once the cameras alert to movement. Someone could break in through an unprotected window. Right now there's no way to trigger the alarm remotely should your cameras alert you to movement. Motion sensors are only good if you don't have larger dogs.

I completely agree. What is the point of a camera if I can't set off the alarm remotely? Please update the app!

You definitely need to put the panic button in the App. I just heard about an incident that my friend had and he was helpless because he was away from the keypad and the keyfob. It would have been different for him if it was in the phone because no one sleeps with their keys but cellphones are life now days.

Agree. This is a good idea that should be added to the feature backlog.

Hi chudak,

No, there isn't one in the app. The Panic Button function means something very specific for our Dispatchers - indicating that someone is on the premises and needs assistance right away. That's why the only way to trigger an alarm with a Panic Alarm is through a physical button in range of the system - either on the Keypad, Key Fob, or the dedicated Panic Button.

What if I can’t get to one of the physical buttons?

In an event where there's an intruder in your home and the alarm wasn't armed (so it wouldn't trigger an alarm), we strongly recommend dialing 911 yourself.

This is an odd response to a very reasonable request IMO. You say the panic button has a very specific meaning to your operators — that someone on the premises is in distress. How about when *something* on the premises is in distress or at danger but you’re not physically home to do anything about it. An in-app trigger for the alarm is absolutely necessary. I can’t believe it’s not already part of the system. (I sincerely hope the reason has nothing to do with sales of the panic button remote…).

This is extremely necessary. I just had a situation in which this feature would’ve made me feel much safer. I almost always have my phone on me, but I won’t always be near a panic button sensor.

Davey_d, This is the company answer. You have used it every time someone asks for a panic button on the app. What if many of us don't have SS monitoring and are self monitoring? If we are out of town and cannot respond with an alarm to something we see on the camera, then your whole system is crippled for us.  I understand the company prefers to get the monthy income for monitoring, but .........

Hi pjanits,

My answer is more of an explanation for why the current setup exists. I'm not saying that we'll never have a panic function in-app, but we'd have to make some bigger changes to make it happen.

Hi, ive seen more than a handful of people reach out via your forums and twitter etc etc etc, but a feature that needs to be added DESPERATELY is the option to trigger the alarm from in app, as a person who doesnt have motion sensors or key fob or stand alone panic button in my home and has no intention to be upsold, this is a necessary addition that needs to be added. In a potential event of someone breaking in and doesn't set off my door sensors , im more or less out of luck, i understand the purpose of a panic button is to alert emergency dispatch that people are on the premise, BUT and a big BUT at that, there is the potential and has been the potential for people to forget their panic button or key fob, and to be dependent on some proprietary hardware is a bit ridiculous, in high stress moments like a break in the #1 thing people grab is their phone, the panic button is a deterrent that shouldn't be stuck behind a paywall especially when paying 1000s of dollars for a system. Its a no brainer. if safety is the priority, this needs to be added. safety should be simple the company name implies that, safety shouldn't be your out of luck because you didn't opt for our premium hardware... Please, add this for the sake of peoples safety and the COUNTLESS people in the community who have been asking for it. People have been asking for it for years, this is a quality of life update that is necessary. Camera connectivity issues also need tackling, my cameras went off line the other day and randomly go off line while im just left waiting for the life view, there has not been any issues with my internet, and with the updates that are pushed out to the keypad, and infrequent as they are, it has gotten better, better it is still a battle. Without trying to sound rude, ive had 30$ video door bells do better. Please listen to the people and let people feel safe easier...

I could not agree more. I have cameras setup outdoors on my vacation home and I am totally out of luck if I see somebody "sneaking" around my property. I cannot setoff the siren to possibly scare them away, I can just talk to them, wow how effective is that? Even with the new outdoor camera, you cannot turn on the light or trigger the siren via the App.

And I totally agree with the fact that the cameras need to be "fixed", so they stop randomly dropping off the network. I tried the new outdoor camera mounted in same place as the indoor camera with outdoor kit and it would not hold the network at all. I had to return the cameras and go back to indoor cameras with outdoor kit.

The capabilities of the outdoor cameras are overstated as they lead you to believe that you can turn on the spot light and siren via the APP if you happen to see an intruder or the camera motion is set off, but you cannot do either. Big miss SimplySafe!

SimplySafe needs to keep up with the competition as a lot of the other cameras have the capability of setting off the siren and spotlights via the app.

I also want an in-app panic button.  My wife has crippling anxiety from a home break-in a few years ago and when I'm not home she would feel a lot safer if she had a panic button at her fingertips rather than having to run to a bedroom.  It would make her feel safer and thus my life easier.

@pjc0715 Sorry about what your wife experienced - it must have been terrifying.  In the meanwhile why not just get her a key fob?  It has a built in panic button and a keychain loop which she could attach a chain to and carry it around her neck.  I also think it would be a lot faster than opening the app and finding a panic button.  See what she thinks.  Amazon has them for faster shipping.

15 Messages

@ronsec that’s not the point, there should be easier way to set off your alarm in dangerous situations where you don’t have access to the panic button or keypad. And it shouldn’t be tied to some proprietary hardware

@Camryn  Oh but it is the point!  I agree that it would be nice to have a panic button in the app.  However it has been requested for years and no joy.  This man's wife lives in fear and needs relief NOW not when SS gets around to it.  The key fob is the best option at the present time imo. I still think it would take too long to bring up the app, hit the panic button and wait for it to operate.  Might be Ok if you weren't home and a few seconds wouldn't bring you any physical harm. YMMV
